Before Weddingbee, I had no idea what a save the date was. Does that make me a big dummy in the wedding world? Probably. But then I got schooled and quickly decided that we just could not get married without STD’s! (Overused joke… but still funny!) I started blog stalking to find something fun to send out for our save the dates, but nothing was jumping out at me.
Enter Mr. Dumpling. He’s known for being the more creative half of this couple, so I wasn’t surprised that his idea was totally legit! Mr. Dumpling is half Chinese, so he thought it might be a good idea to incorporate some of his heritage into our STD’s, since a lot of our reception will feature my Southern roots.

First, we ordered custom fortune cookies from Good Fortune Cookies. For $40, we got 300 cookies, individually wrapped, and featuring a custom message with our names, wedding date and wedding website.

Mr. Dumpling wanted to trick our guests into thinking they were getting a piece of fancy jewelry, so we ordered these velvet ring boxes online for about $0.65/each. In order to fit the fortune cookies in the boxes, we had to take the inside out.

Some of the cookies were shaped… weird. So they *might* have gotten crushed a little on the bottom. Not freaking out. Repeat: Not freaking out.

See?
Next up: The envelopes. This was the really cheap part of this project. We got these at Office Depot on sale for $20 for a box of 250. I’m glad we got the big box because I messed up about 50 envelopes with my Gocco!

I used my Gocco to put our iStock design onto each envelope.

OK, so the design didn’t exactly come out perfect, but I was happy! Plus, I meant for the ink to be splotchy- it’s supposed to be “vintagey.”
I started out thinking I would emboss our return address on the back, but since this was such a lengthy project, we went with pink labels from Paper Source.

When our guests open the ring box to reveal a fortune cookie, they’ll see a tag wrapped around the cookie that reads “Will You……….”.
I printed the tags on Paper Source Luxe Blush card stock and cut them using a paper cutter. Easy! Well, minus the emergency trip to CVS for Band-Aids. Be careful when using a paper cutter - especially the cheap kind!

And the finished product…..

After opening the cookie, they’ll find a custom fortune that reads:

I have to hand it to Mr. Dumpling - this was his idea completely, and I think it will leave our guests wondering about whats’ in store for our wedding.
Has there been one or two projects you left completely up to your sweetheart? How did it turn out?
these are too cute~!!! I think the only project Mr. Lovebird helped me on was the Guinness bottles to ask our groomsmen.
