Our Relaximoon

September 16th, 2008 @ 12:16 pm by Mrs. Avocado

I think we booked what some might consider to be the least exciting honeymoon ever. We’ve dubbed it our ‘Relaximoon’, because the focus won’t be on seeing and experiencing everything, but rather, it will be on doing nothing. I want to take a book and read the whole thing from cover to cover.  I might even find a little bit of time to blog a post or two, as I have already checked to find out if wireless internet will be available. :)

The first three nights we will be staying here:

Then we will drive three hours to stay here for four nights:

Each of those adorable little buildings are separate hotel rooms called cliffhouses!

Why would some consider this so boring? The first room is located at Hotel 1000 which is our wedding venue.

The econd location is where I work. Yes, we are honeymooning at my work. The very same place that forced me to work a 13 and a half hour catering shift until 3:30AM (when I live 40 minutes from work) this past weekend. I work at a winery, and neither Mr. Avo nor I even drink wine.

Why would we do this? Because our total cost for lodging for one week at these two hotels (which are both placed on Washington CEO magazine’s Top 20 list of hotels in Washington state) will be less than $1,000. Just for fun, I’ve done the research to see what it would normally cost to stay in these rooms, and the total would be around $2000 after tax. I almost salivate thinking of all of the things we can do with the $1000 we are saving (I salivate because most of that money is going towards splurging on room service and bath bomb-filled bubble baths!).

After I moved home for the summer I started working at Cave B Inn, where I have worked for the past two summers. It’s a long drive to get there, and I complain a lot right now because I don’t want to be working their anymore, but I really love the place. I am sure I will have lots of pictures for you after the honeymoon that will help you understand just how breathtaking the views and the sunsets are. Plus, after working in the restaurant for three years, I pretty much have the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus memorized. I’ll be able to order all of our meals from memory! :)

As soon as I started working again, I turned in employee discount applications for all of the properties that fall under the MTM Luxury Lodging umbrella. They have boutique hotels all across Washington state (and some in Boston and San Diego, if you are interested) and if you are working at one property, you can stay at any other property for a discounted rate of $95-$120 per night. Staying for a rate that low is like getting away with murder when you consider that the majority of these rooms start at $300 per night, and go up from there.

The biggest drawback at Cave B will be that our customer service will be provided by the very same people that I work with on a daily basis. I guess it is time to go apologize to that jerk in guest services who freaked out on me after a little disagreement we had on Saturday night. I don’t want him deliberately denting our rental car when I hand him the keys and ask him, ever so sweetly, to trek outside in the freezing cold to bring down yet another bucket of ice for the newlyweds. ;)

Are you utilizing your resources for your honeymoon?

Those cliffside rooms look awesome! I’m proud of your budget-y goodness here… its still a getaway, and the location seems lovely. I’m completely at a loss for our plans…. Congrats!

That place looks amazing. We work all the time, so a relaxing honeymoon sounds right up our alley. Do your Bee friends get hotel discounts too? wink wink….=)

If by resources, you mean staying at home, then yes we are! :) Seriously though, I’ve been unemployed for a while now, so our financial situation isn’t great. We considered making a trip up to my family’s cabin for a few days to relax, but Mr. Y is in school, and doesn’t have any vacation time left at his job. Unfortunately, the relaxing honeymoon is on the back burner for us…the places you two are staying at look wonderful though. After not seeing each other for two months, a relaxing week together sounds perfect!

Its not where you go, its what you make of it! I’m CONVINCED mr. peng and I could have kept on staying at the holiday inn in my hometown where we stayed the night of the wedding for 5 days, and had a blast :) I mean, hey they had a pool! Haha. You are super lucky to have those resources at your fingertips…your 2nd locale reminds me of the place where we got engaged in Big Sur, CA and it was the BEST trip ever! (Dare I say better than our actual honeymoon???)

Oooh, Cave B is fantastic! I have friends who stayed there for their 25th anniversary two weekends ago. We have been thinking about going in the winter (off-season rates?) so that we can see the gorge with snow on it. Our friends hiked the trail down to the river, which they said was gorgeous. Have a great time!! And drink some of their Syrah for me, it’s marvelous.

Kudos to you for using your resources that is an AWESOME honeymoon price, I’m super jealous!
FH gets a discount at any Marriot hotel, so now we’re thinking we can go to Europe for our honeymoon b/c the hotels will be MUCH cheaper :)

Good for you on saving moola! My guy’s mom belonged to 1000 Trails resorts (campgrounds with trailers), so we stayed at those all down the Oregon Coast which was less than $60 a night. Most of the time they were right near the action. We saved so much money on those that we splurged on a suite in California. Yay for resources!

@Miss Dumpling: Immediate family does. I feel like you bee’s are just like family. I don’t know if my work would agree though…
@Miss X: I actually think that we could just stay home and be happy as well! As long as we just get to see each other, for an extended period of time, it will feel like the best vacation ever! I hope your long distance is ending soon, I can’t wait for mine to be over!
@Suzanno: Def go in the off season, as I have seen the rate for the cavern rooms fall as low as $120! If you do decide to go, stay in cavern room 24, as it is the room that the front desk recommended to me for my stay!
