Found my way to the east coast, and Mr. Champagne kept me here so we're planning a wedding from afar in my hometown Vail, Colorado. I'm secretly obsessed with reality TV, Wii games where I can shoot a gun, country music, and Caesar: Dog Whisperer. I also spend time pretending to golf, backseat driving, having one way conversations with our MinPin Maxwell, loving champagne, and wedding perfecting… I mean, planning. About Miss Champagne

While recently reading the board posts here on Weddingbee, I came across a post written by reader SugarSparkle asking others to share the most unique aspect of their wedding. There were some wonderfully creative ideas thrown out there, and many of them had to do with the ceremony or reception music. All of these clever responses made me think about the Champ wedding.

While wedding season is typically in the warmer months of the year, our wedding is in February. So, although that fact makes our wedding a little unique, it doesn’t really qualify as anything monumental. We wanted to create something that would be unexpected, but fitting for our winter wedding. So we thought about having a s’mores bar! Not only do I have a ginormous sweet tooth, but also we’ve got the perfect venue to make this concept really fun.

Our reception venue is a huge log cabin, and with the rustic feel of it all, we knew a s’mores bar would be perfect! What makes our s’mores bar unique is that it will be outside at the fire pit. The stone walkway to the fire pit is heated, and there is an additional fire pit with some big cozy leather couches outside.

We still have yet to figure out the logistics of our s’mores bar, and it’ll probably depend on the weather on the day of our wedding. Most likely, we’ll have the goods set up inside, similar to the wedding below featured on The Knot, and guests can make their way to the fire pit. We’re just hoping our guests will venture outside!

Wouldn’t you want to head outside for this?

How perfect is this photo! S’mores combined with the evidence of an extraordinary day to remember!

So, thanks SugarSparkle for asking that great question!

Now I ask you hive, what is the most unique thing about your wedding?

Dangit, I thought it was our s’mores bar!

Nah, the most unique thing was our music, written for the event by me, and never heard before or since.

Although we did also have s’mores.

We are having a number of little things that will make our wedding “us” from the caricature inviations and artist doing caricatures for our guest book, to my aqua dress, to the flower girl carring her petals in an antique sand pail and ring bearer carring the rings in a seashell (yeah - it’s a beach-y wedding), to an guest-inclusion polynesian dance revue during dinner (in our backyard) to the wines from Africa (where we support two orphans) to our processional music (”When You Wish Upon A Star”) and recessional music (the theme from the Main Street Electical Parade). Huh - when I write eveythiung out that way it sounds a bit like a mixed up circus (great metaphor for our life!). Oh yeah, the best part (other than actually being married) is day two when our family and friends will hop on a bus and join us for the Light the Night walk to raise money for blood cancer research (our “Team I Do” is up to almost $7000!). It’s all happening this weekend - T minus 3 days - ack!

We’re having Red Sox player table numbers (still all scripty and beautiful, but people will be all “Table 47, wha? Terry Francona??”), which isn’t particularly unique, but I think is a fun way to nod to our Bean Town allegiances without making it over the top. I’m trying to think if we’re doing anything else that is unique….ummm, my father, who runs a steakhouse in the midwest, is flying in steaks that he is going to grill for our rehearsal dinner, which should be delicious. Our gifts to our parents are bees and goats and geese and such from heifer.org and we’re doing charity donations to MSF, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and ASPCA in lieu of favors.

Our wedding will be the first wedding held in the particular art gallery that we have chosen as our venue. The actual ceremony will also be conducted in the cinema, so we will get married on stage and have a slide show playing before the ceremomy while the guests are waiting for the processional.

Depending on where we end up having our reception, this was definitely one of my “must-haves” from the beginning. I love the idea of a mini after-party around a bonfire with close friends and family hanging out and making s’mores! :)
thanks for the pics!

I bet if you have some hot coccoa near the smores you would definately get people to go out there. I know I would, I think the blending of Catholic and Sikh is going to be the most interesting part of our wedding.

my father and sister are singing a song they wrote during our ceremony….i’m not allowed to hear or read the song until the wedding ceremony so i’m sure i’ll be in tears. Also, we are throwing a square dance for 350+ people the night before as a “mixer” for all of our guests to meet before the big day. We are catering the event ourselves from recipes that go very far back in our history, for a guest list that is approximately 400 people. We have a very special first dance surprise for our guests…. And we are having a bonfire and home cooked feast with our families after the wedding and reception are over.

Make sure there’s a container of wet-naps at the ’smores bar! Or, am I the only bride who would have sticky fingers and chocolaty kisses from her niece on her dress?

I love your s’mores bar. Its creative, memorable, very venue-appropriate, and sounds like a good touch of your personality. Excellent!

I’ll admit, however, if I were a guest I’d much prefer a burner, a small flame, or even a fireplace to toast my marshmallows with because I’d be concerned about the smoke damaging my wedding-wear.

The smores bar is an excellent idea! It’s something that kids and adults will enjoy together, now how often can you say that about a wedding?!

I think the most unique thing about our wedding was the location of the rehearsal dinner… on the landing (patio) of our local minor league ball team. We watched the game and socialized while eating incredible food! It was a perfect setting to suit my husband’s family legacy of baseball and was casual enough for me!

We are having a s’mores bar too! They are one of my all time favorite things. Along with them we are having the makings for shaggy dogs and maybe banana boats, although those are a bit trickier. Our wedding is outdoor on the family’s rural property so we are easily able to have a bonfire for roasting and to keep the party going.

We are also having fireworks! We couldn’t resist and one of our friends is going to set them off for us.

But non of this is what makes us unique. What makes are weddign unique is the nautical seaside theme in the middle of western New England mountianous farmland. We are not near the shore at all but we are having a nautical wedding. The combination speaks a lot about us because we have a love of both and will be able to share that with our friends and family.

We’re doing a smores bar as well! Our venue has a section for a giant bonfire so after the reception everyone can go to a different area to enjoy them. I do plan on changing and the wet naps that someone said are a great idea!

Wow, that’s a lot of smores!

I love our unique invitations - Willy Wonka slabs with a golden ticket inside - and the film theme we’re doing, from Oscar chocolates as favours, to naming the tables after classic film stars. Oh, and our Corpse Bride cake topper! I’ve seen it done before in pictures, but I doubt our guests will have!

I saw that article in Modern Bride? Brides? last year with the picture of the Smores Bar. I looked into having one but candles weren’t allowed at our venue (let alone mini stoves). That will be perfect in your log cabin locale.

The most unique thing at our wedding was our cake topper. As a hobby my dad hand carves birds out of wood, so he made a pair of cardinals to sit on our cake. You can see some pictures of it in my married bio http://tinyurl.com/4a37s4

This is not from my wedding but two friends of mine recently got married and put a twist on the sand pouring ceremony. They are also expecting a child and so they each brought dirt from their hometowns and in the ceremony they poured the dirt together and planted the seed for a tree to grow at their new home to symbolize the joining of two families and the growth of the baby. Loved it!

yeah smores! at a bbq this summer, we discovered that my chocolate cake makes a great chocolate substitute in smores. cake smores! (this came about because my cake is dairy free, and the milk chocolate was not, and one of my friends is very lactose intolerant.)
