A Wedding in a Week: The License

September 16th, 2008 @ 11:49 am by Mrs. Pineapple

The morning after we decided to get married early, Mr. Pineapple and I headed to the Indiana, Pennsylvania courthouse. Armed with our camera and identification, we were greeted by Jimmy Stewart and probably the only metal detector within 60 miles. (Jimmy Stewart is Indiana’s claim to fame, along with being the Christmas Tree Capitol of the World—possibly a self-proclamation.)

I have to admit, I always get slightly nervous when it comes to quizzes, and they had a lot of questions for us. Luckily, the hardest one was when they asked for Mr. P’s occupation.

So I said, “Well, on Weddingbee, you’re listed as a student affairs administrator,” and he said, “Oh! That works.” The second hardest part was spelling my parents hometown of Loxahatchee correctly.

Apparently we got enough of the questions right because they gave us this:

So, it is sitting next to my computer singing, “I’ve got a golden ticket! I’ve got a golden chance to make my day!”

I don’t know why people say weddings are expensive. Really, all you need is a willing partner and this magical paper. The partner is free, and the paper was only $30.

What was it like getting your marriage license?

Getting a marriage license for us would have been much cooler if we were near a Jimmy Stewart statue.

We were very giddy walking up to the marriage license building. Answering the questions and then raising our right hand to swear that it was the whole truth was pretty cool. We giggled a bunch. There was a couple in their mid 40’s getting married as well. They had their children with them and they were dressed so nicely. It made me very excited to have my own wedding day approaching so fast!

Your post reminds me of my favorite song…. “All you need is Love….” You’re right, though- all you need is your sweetheart and everything else is just the icing on the $1000 wedding cake! Congrats, P!

Haha, not every day I see my hometown courthouse on Weddingbee! (Or on the internet at all, for that matter!) Nice one!

Sheesh! Our license was like $72! Wonder why it’s so much more expensive to get married here.

Congrats on getting your license to wed!

We went to get our marriage license this past Friday, in Warren, Ohio where we’ll be getting married. It was a very quick and painless process. We had to fill out a simple form, with basic family info. Then the lady printed out our certificate, asked us to raise our right hands, and swear we weren’t related and weren’t on drugs or alcohol at that time. :-) Then, that was it. The license is good for 60 days, which is more than enough time considering the wedding is in 32 days! We gave our license/paperwork to our pastor that evening, so he has everything to bring to the wedding - less chance of us forgetting it (which we love!) It was very exciting to get our license - it’s official now! We’re allowed to get married!

Oh, and for Ohio, it was $44! Too bad we aren’t getting married here in PA - $30 is a good deal!

Wow, $30 is less than a St. Patrick’s Day open container fine in Allegheny County!
