About Mrs. Pineapple

A Wedding in a Week: The Dress

September 17th, 2008 @ 10:27 am by Mrs. Pineapple

For our second first wedding, I wanted to get a different dress for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted “the dress,” that has been the dress all along, to still be a surprise for Mr. Pineapple in October. Secondly, my original dress was just too fancy for our new location of either a court house, backyard or hospital chapel (still to be determined).

Sister Pineapple was flying in town the day before my bridal shower, so it was the perfect time to go dress shopping. We went into the same David’s Bridal that has been the highs and lows of my relationship with my gown since the beginning. I explained to the sales associate that I needed an inexpensive gown that I could take home that morning. She was so very accommodating and lead my sister, mother and I to the $99 gown rack.

Okay Mr. Pineapple you know the deal, no more reading beyond this point.

And there it was. A tea-length all over lace gown in my size for $99. It was short, sweet and simple. In a word perfect.
It is a style from 2005 ( Galina T8627), so finding pictures was not easy. It looks a little different on me than the model above. It is a bit shorter and more a-line since my hips don’t lie. We were in the store all of 20 minutes. Done and done. The best part about this dress is it is casual enough to wear for the rehearsal and dinner.

My veil would also look great with this dress. What do you think, should I hold off on wearing the veil until October or wear it for both weddings?

Hope everything is ok with you and your family… very curious as to why you are having to change plans suddenly, and also why you mentioned the hospital chapel… thoughts are with you Pineapple!! And the dress is so cute, perfect find!

What a sweet little dress. I know you don’t have much time, but a less-fancy veil (or even a white hat) would look so nice with it… or you could just do some fancy hair clips.

Keeping your family in my thoughts, too. I hope all is well. You seem to be going at this with a great spirit.

Adorable dress! A simple birdcage veil or a flower clip with a bit of french netting would look so lovely with that dress! I love backyard weddings by the way…good luck with everything!

That dress is adorable. And “my hips don’t lie…” hilarious!

I like MHB’s idea of a simpler veil. I think it’d look beautiful.

Since you’re in a time crunch, you might not have time to search for another veil, but a quick trip to a craft store could yield a beautiful fake flower that you could easily fashion into a jaunty hair piece. Best wishes to you both.

The first thing my mom said when we went to David’s “where are the $99 dresses?”. She showed us where they were and then said “see you in two minutes”. As luck would have it, I found my gown there (but it was $149), a Monique Luo dress from 2006. The even more amazing thing is that my BM each get $20 off of their dresses, even though mine cost so little!
Anyway, good luck with the impromptu wedding Miss Pineapple! I say, go w/o a veil and put a daisy in your hair!

I agree that a cute hair flower would be a good choice with this dress, Pineapple. It’s such a sweet dress– I think a longer veil would overwhelm it.

You already have the veil, may as well get double duty out of it! Esp. since you say it looks great. It won’t take much away from your second/first wedding.

I say wear the veil. You get the wear that dress again, but as far as I can think of at teh moment, you never get to wear a veil again - Be the bride! Wear the veil!

Seriously - really anxious to hear why the early wedding.

I know I am being kind of secretive about the reasons behind the early wedding. I just don’t want to make anyone in my family uncomfortable with a public announcement about this very personal time. Along the same lines, I also didn’t want to not tell all of you about the early wedding because this is all part of the very real planning process.

I hope everything is ok. But not knowing (totally understand why you aren’t sharing) is totally making my mind race to all sorts of horrible things. Hope I’m wrong on all fronts and have a great first wedding.

I would skip the veil the first time and use it the second, but I’m not much of a veil girl myself. I ditched mine right after the ceremony trying to go for two looks :) …I looooove your new dress though! It is really cute and charming. I hope we’ll get to see the pics from the first wedding too? At least some pics of you in that super cute short little lacy number? :)

I think this dress is a perfect pick! I also think some sort of hair flower or accessory would look fantastic with the dress. (To me a veil is too fussy for a “simple” look. JMO) Also, in regards to what your family is going though, know that we are all thinking good thoughts for all of you. I’m so glad that you and Mr. P are getting a chance to have this very special memory with your family by your sides.

Wear the veil! You’ll NEVER wear a veil again (except for your second first wedding!). I think that a flower would be really cute too, but you could always wear a flower in your hair (to a dinner or a party) and not look silly. You would look silly if you showed up to a party with a veil. :)

So I say wear the veil– you deserve to feel like a bride on both days! If you have the funds, I think a birdcage veil would be adorable with that dress. I never gave them much though (I’m more traditional) but lately I think they’re so cute!

I wanted to find something on the $99 rack for my wedding so bad! It’s really beautiful, and I am sure it looks better on someone with a real body than someone with a non-curvy body like the model.

I love the idea of wearing your original veil. Think of the symbolism by wearing it on your second first wedding and then your October first wedding! How special to have the veil with you on both wonderful days.

I’m such a sap…

Oh yes. I love the $99 rack at David’s. I think my wedding dress might have come off the very same one at the very same store.

I’m glad that you found something so great in such a short amount of time. The lace is so pretty, especially the scalloped lace on the hem.

Good luck!

I told my fiance about you last night - a wedding in a week - I LOVE it!!! Everyone wonders how long it takes to plan a wedding — a week is all it takes!

I’d LOVE to do it … and get away from our almost 2 year long engagement, but no such luck! Best Wishes!

I lusted over that dress for months, but, sadly it did not look nice on me. I’m really short. :-) But, you look spectacular in it! :-D
