When I first became engaged, I discovered that I had some pretty amazing people in my life. Not that I wasn’t aware of this beforehand, but in these crazy moments of wedding planning, it tends to become amplified. One of my most favorite and amazing engagement presents was the offer by one of my mom’s friends (who I’ve called Auntie Sue for most of my life) to give Mr. Pom and I ballroom dance lessons. Auntie Sue used to work at Arthur Murray - so these aren’t just any free lessons - they were professional lessons.

Then Auntie Sue informed me of her wedding present to us - she wanted to do all of our wedding flowers for the wedding! I was shocked! Of course, I knew that Auntie Sue was incredibly talented, as she had done her own wedding flowers as well as the arrangements for most of her church functions for many years. I graciously accepted and entered the world of wholesale flower shopping after she decided to give me tour to get a better idea of the types of flowers I liked.
So we headed to a few local wholesale flower markets one Saturday afternoon to take a peek. Be forewarned - most markets are freezing cold and have damp cement floors. I was asked to wear something warm and shoes that would not slip on slick surfaces. Armed with my digital camera we walked around for a few hours.

Uhm, can you say Ribbon Heaven?!

I definitely wanted some curly willow!

Where to begin!? Auntie Sue’s beautiful little girl Emma Rose reccommends that you begin by smelling the flowers!
These were gorgeous! But I’m not sure what they were!?
I discovered these white, fluffy, hydrangea.
These green mums were so delicate, they kept them safe in little netted bags.
We decided to use these black glass Eiffel Tower vases as the tall centerpieces, since Auntie Sue had some in her stock. We would fill them with some sort of curly willow arrangement. I wanted to incorporate succulents in the short centerpieces, but we hadn’t solidified the design just yet. So I headed out for another day to shop for alternate black glass receptacles and picked up a case of each of the black glass cubes in the trio below .

Next up, the flower design and a centerpiece trial!
