About Mrs. Lemonade

We Have a Winner!

September 17th, 2008 @ 7:34 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

Thank you all so so so very much for your help! This weekend I mulled over the dresses some more and I took each of your comments to heart and pondered your feedback. I also made sure the bridal babes had one last chance to review the choices before we decided. Turns out one of y’alls favorites also ended up with unanimous support from my girls. Thus, I present to you our bridesmaid dress decision ’08:

The J Crew Sophia long, Navy

My sister loves it because it’s silky, form fitting, and elegant. L hearts it because she knows she’ll be able to get down on the dance floor and cut loose without a stiff dress cramping her style, and C, the Island bridesmaid, thinks it’s awesome because she can order it herself from the comfort of the internet café on board (she also has a belief she will actually wear it again since formal gowns are part of her dress code – bonus!). I love it too since choosing it means I can cross another item/decision off the ever growing to-do list (random side note – why is it that as we get closer the list is getting LONGER and not SHORTER?!? Riddle me that…)

Have you decided on your bridesmaids dresses yet? How did you come to your decision?

I had a difficult deciding on dresses for the bridal party. We chose navy J. Crew dresses in silk tricotine for our May ‘08 wedding and they were a big hit with our bridesmaids and guests. My sister wore a complimentary navy dress from Ann Taylor. I still get comments about how nice the bridal party looked which makes me feel good about the decision.

I’m in a wedding this October and the bride chose the short Sophia in Vintage Burgundy and I love it. Will definitely wear it again - it’s very flattering.

You rock. I hope your BMs know it. That is a great dress. For me it was a ridiculously long process that took longer than choosing MY dress, and ended with me feeling like Lo Lo Jones. Feel free to read the blog posts about it. (yeah - postS - it took 3). Oy vey.

This is a great dress! I might be getting J Crew ones for our bms too, — big clearance sale right now on the purple dresses!

@Miss Taffy: I think they’re navy :)

And… love it.

Your posts have inspired me to reconsider black and think navy for our maids! Luckily I have until May!

I love the sophia dress. I have not yet found an excuse to buy one, though I did model my wedding dress after it, just in dupioni for a firmer drape.

I have this dress in white that I wear for formal events and it is so flattering; it makes your waste look tiny. And bonus, if you have tall BM she will love it ’cause it comes in tall.

I just ordered my BM dresses from J. Crew (various styles of brown cotton cady dresses). If you don’t already have one, you might consider opening a J. Crew card (1 of 2 credit cards I now own)in-store and ordering your BMs dresses with it. Not only do you get 20% off your entire purchase, free shipping to multiple addresses (if you order in store), but you also get a $25 gift card for every $500 you spend. I swear that I don’t work at J. Crew, I was just so excited to help the gals out with a bit of a discount and to get some gift cards for me too! I know where I will get my RD dress from:)

It’s beautiful!! And hear, hear about the list getting longer as the timeline gets shorter. What’s with that?

I prefer more clear and luminous BM dresses. I mean yours are beautiful but a little bit too dark.

Awesome choice! One word of advice–once you pick a color, make sure all the ladies get their dresses before the color sells out–J.Crew likes to tweak with their color palletes (for example, right now the silk tricotine dark blue color isn’t navy, but deep marine or something similar).

Nice bonus to this dress–your ladies can shorten it afterwards if they want–score!

Great tip, Elizabeth! I recently noticed the switch to deep marine from navy. It’s a beautiful color but could be a problem if the dresses are ordered around the time that J Crew changes their styles/colors.
