About Mrs. Green Tea

Small Gifts, Big Heart

September 19th, 2008 @ 2:16 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

I’ve already told you about the thoughtful wedding present from the hubs. Since he had to give it to me a week prior to the wedding so I could enjoy them before the honeymoon, I gave him one of his wedding presents at the same time in exchange:

We have a little tradition to get a Christmas ornament that marks each year. I love that this teapot ornament is shaped much like our monogram - a subtle way to pay our wedding year a little tribute, and it’s something we will keep and use for years to come.

Our Monogram

The second part of his present is a calendar I made on Shutterfly with pictures of our years past, and captions that are inside jokes of sorts.

I was supposed to have it delivered to him at the vineyard so our photog could capture his reaction on film. Well I totally forgot about it, but this turned out to be a fortunate event. I gave it to him myself on our wedding night, and I’m so glad that I got to see his reaction in person instead! While it is a simple gift, I knew he would appreciate how personal the gift was.

I must admit, I had my doubts (turns out, he did too) about not spending enough on the wedding gifts. Next to a watch or custom cufflinks, an ornament and paper calendar can pale in comparison.  But while we didn’t mind spending a few extra bucks on the wedding presents, buying expensive gifts solely for the sake of the occasion simply isn’t us. I’m really glad we discussed presents prior to the wedding, agreed to buy each other nothing unless it was meaningful, and that the cost of the items were irrelevant. :)

Are you exchanging wedding presents and where will you do it?

My mom gives us a christmas ornament every year, and it is so fun to see what she finds for us (and even more fun to go through the Christmas boxes and unwrap all of them every year). I planned on doing the same thing for my kids, but I think it would be a nice exchange for Mr. Avo and I as well. I think the teapot you found is so adorable! It reminds me of Cinderella’s coach.

I really liked the idea of cufflinks, but Mr. D never wears anything with cuffs that need to be linked. I’ll probably get him a gift certificate to Taco Bell or something….We’re cheap like that and Taco Bell is regular meal in our house!

GT, you and I have so much in common, it’s kind of insane. There are a couple of your posts that I have been meaning to comment on but haven’t yet (hey! maybe I’ll do that today!).

Anyway, I think this is totally sweet and thoughtful. As if there isn’t enough pressure on the wedding day, and enough money being spent! Mr. CP and I went the “small but thoughtful” route, too. :)

That is so sweet and thoughtful. I like the idea of the gift having meaning and not being about the money. I think your gifts were neat!

We didn’t get each other anything–we agreed we would get something for ourselves for our six-month anniversary. Well, I did buy him a bottle of absinthe liquor that he has been wanting for some time but then totally forgot to take it to the wedding venue. (Turns out he didn’t need it that night anyway! :-))

It’s better to have a personal gift than a gift for gift’s sake.

How was it making that calendar thru snapfish? I’ve been meaning to do something like that for our family. Was it fairly easy?

that is an adorable teapot ornament…..and it sure does resemble your monogram! how lucky that you were able to find that, where did you find that?

i’m an ornament collector and i add tags with them with a reason why the ornament was purchased.
