Let the Buffness Begin

September 22nd, 2008 @ 6:14 pm by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Around the 90 day mark, I put the call out asking all you lovely ladies and gents if it was possible to get buff in 90 days. Well, it’s time for an update.

I couldn’t believe how many amazing ideas everyone had, thank you so much to everyone who commented.

It is now 51 days until we leave for Punta Cana, and I wish I could tell you that I did it ALL: got a personal trainer, did hot yoga, joined a pilates class, got a gym membership, found an online support group, did the One Hundred Push Ups program, swam laps and did a dozen different fitness videos.

But I can’t. ‘Cause that would be lying. (Not to mention crazy.)

Needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options out there and didn’t really know where to start. Then, my (wonderful) boss went on a 12 day detox and lo and behold, I had a brainwave - what better way to kick off our pre-wedding healthy-living lifestyle than by doing the same?

breezy

What we did was the Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox. Basically, it comes with a list of foods to avoid (like dairy, sugar, alcohol, processed flours… pretty straightforward) and herbal supplements. I’m not gonna lie, the first three days were NOT. FUN. But by the end of it, we both felt like a million bucks!

Of course, doing a detox is definitely not for everyone. But for us it was a great way to get ourselves in the proper mind frame just in time for the next step…

BOOT CAMP!

I finally decided I needed a fitness program that involved scheduled sessions so I couldn’t weasel my way out of working out. The boot camp I found sounds perfect for me - it’s intense (instant gratification), doesn’t involve being inside a gym or doing any jogging (thank goodness!) and doesn’t require me to bring anything but my bootie. Yay!

It starts TODAY! And I will admit it - I am freaking out just a little bit. I mean, I haven’t really “exercised” since high school gym class. What if it’s too tough for me? What if I embarrass myself ’cause I can’t keep up? What if I’m so sore tomorrow that I can’t walk??

Mr Breezy thinks it’s pretty funny that I’m so nervous I have butterflies. But guess what? I’ve convinced him do it with me.

We’ll see who has the last laugh.

How did you choose your pre-wedding fitness program and get prepared for it? Were you nervous too?

No matter how much a bride works out or wants the “buffness”, she still needs has her body type and shape. I think it’s important to find a wedding dress that flatters your shape, here’s how: http://planningelegance.com/match-your-wedding-dress-to-your-body-shape/. Every woman’s body is different, just love the skin your in and flatter your attributes!

I bet you love it!! I did a five day a week boot camp for the month right before the wedding and loved it!! For anyone in the Bay Area I recommend checking out time out services. I look forward to rejoining the classes now that the wedding is over and things have settled down.

I’m 5 mos out and have had a hard time getting motivated. I’m just increasing exercise SLIGHTLY, gave up soda & cut back SOME on sweets. Thanks for the inspiration!

Ive done the South Beach Diet for 3 years now and I love it. Its not easy to follow, but the results are fast and permenant. It sucks when you’re at a party with cake though (or a wedding..heehee). You can’t eat sugar or flour. You’re hot anyways, so I don’t know what exactly you could improve upon with this detox..=)

I’m doing boot camp too! It rocks!! I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks and I’m definitely toning up. Good luck! Don’t worry if you’re sore the first couple of days. You’ll feel MUCH better in the second week.

11 months and counting and I started Curves this past weekend. I’ve been on a 6 month hiatus from a gym and just doing very casual exercise. I was ready to kick things back into gear. I wanted something different and was looking to avoid the gym atmosphere. I have a vacation in less than 3 months so that’s my first goal and then it’s on to really focusing on the wedding.

Boot camp looks like fun- always been a little too pricey for my pocket though =/ I’d be wary of recommending any ‘herbal’ programs to people though. Things like that aren’t regulated by the FDA, they could contain anything and not have any of the ingredients advertised. And what ‘toxins’ are being ‘cleansed’ via lots of pooping? Gotta wonder about things like “Cleansaherb” and “Laxaherb”, eh? =)

@StrawberryBaby: It’s called Mode Boot Camp. I’ll definitely let you know how it goes.

@Miss Dumpling: You’re hilarious. It was just to get us back on track with healthy eating habits.

@Miss Meatball: Hmm, maybe I’ll have to do a follow-up if enough people are interested. The reason I chose to do the Wild Rose program is because I personally know quite a few people who have done it and told me all about it. Actually, when I started telling people about it, it seemed each person either had done it themselves or knew someone that had. I had no idea it was so popular. Maybe it’s a Canadian thing?? ;-)

@peihan17: For sure, which is why I said it’s not for everyone. I’m not ‘recommending’ it, just sharing.

Oooh BootCamp sounds fun! I joined a gym and signed up for a personal trainer there - I’ve been doing it for about 4 months now and while I can see a difference in the mirror and I haven’t in my clothing size and that is frustrating, but Oh well I’m just need to be more patient.

I’ve been looking into the various boot camp options that Van has to offer as well Miss SB!! You’ll have to let me know how you like it. I think I’m going to wait until spring to join up, but until then, must motivate myself to exercise more - heh.

The Nike Running Lounge in Coal Harbour used to have free bootcamp sessions with Mike from Mode Boot Camp, and he was amazing! I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun!!

Ditto on the detox details. Good luck with boot camp! Remember to breathe! Sounds funny but on the rare (every other lunar eclipse that falls on an odd-numbered Tuesday) occasion that i work out, I catch myself holding my breath. Turns out the ol’ bod’ needs oxygen. All together now … deep breath!! (feels good!)

I did a bridal bootcamp too! I had been working out with a personal trainer but did not see REAL results until I did the bootcamp. I trained for about 12 weeks and lost 8lbs and really toned up. People actually complimented me on my wedding day saying how fit I looked! I was already slim but this really helped tone me up and was SO much fun!

Can’t wait to hear about how bootcamp went! I, too, have been interested in it but scared to know how out of shape I really am. (I have horrible stamina even when I’m in shape!) Good luck with the program!

@Miss Dumpling: I did South Beach too (before going to Mexico last fall, but I fell off the wagon with all the rich, delicious drinks and desserts at our all-inclusive).

I’m getting back on the wagon — the first two weeks are tough, but well worth it!

I Survived Boot Camp! » Weddingbee » The Wedding Blog

[...] To say I’ve never been a fitness junkie would be the understatement of the year. But with less than two months before our destination wedding (and two weeks of flouncing around in a bikini), I kicked my procrastination in the butt and, heeding the many suggestions of you lovely readers, joined a boot camp to get buff.
