Wedding Signage

September 22nd, 2008 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Hydrangea

When I woke up last Sunday morning to beautiful weather after a rainy Saturday (thanks to Hurricane Ike), I did a few things around the house and then hunkered down for a day of wedding projects. First up was the signage for the food stations and favor table.

I used the same fonts that are consistent throughout all of our wedding things—from the STDs, to the monogram, to the invitations—and created signs to be placed at each food station, nearest to the food that is available. Since we aren’t having a seated dinner, we decided with our coordinators that the best option was to create a sign for each individual food item. Here are the results:

The W Hotel has 4″x6″ frames, so I took a 4″x6″ piece of black card stock and then placed the 3″x5″ card on top. Voila! It was as easy as that! I just glued them together and placed them all in a plastic baggy for the coordinators to place in the proper spots on the day of the wedding!

I am still a little sad that I didn’t get to make menus for each person, but this was probably the best decision (and the least work).

What did you all decide to do for your food—menus, or cards at each station?

I was going to do menus, but this is a fabulous idea and much more economical. They look great!

As a recent guest at a wedding buffet, let me reassure you that this is the perfect signage. None of the food at the buffet I went to was marked, which led to a lot of: “I think this is the fish… right?” happening in the line. And I missed out on some of best the food because I didn’t know what it was and just skipped it.

These are elegant and informative - your guests will appreciate them.

If you are having a buffet, I’d strongly suggest cards at each station. When guests have to carry a menu card to see what all the different choices, and then grab a place, and then silverware, and then a glass of wine - you quickly run out of hands!

I had all of my final paper projects planned for this weekend, which included doing the menus…but then my caterer emailed asking if we wanted formal names or nicknames on our menus since they’d be printing them soon…I was so happy I could cross that off my list of projects :)

i wish more people put signs up next to the food at buffets in general. i can’t say “name this dish” is my favorite party game since it always holds up the line as people try to decide if it’s something they want to eat. hah. i’m definitely doing something like this too. great work miss h!

I think this was the best way to go as far as economics, time and the environment. Way to be green:)

Thanks for posting this. We’re doing Stations as well and I was recently wondering how we’d format the signage, so this will be great to use as a reference!

Signage

Very nicely designed, it’s always good to choose a good font, so people will be able to read the text, and the layout and design look nice. Nice work
