How to: Triangular Prism Aisle Decor

September 22nd, 2008 @ 12:25 pm by Mrs. Peach

Hi Weddingbee!! It’s been so long… most of you probably weren’t around when I used to write. But a long time ago, I promised that one day I’d post this up, so here it finally is!

How to Make Mrs. Peach’s Triangular Prism Aisle Decor (by Binna Yi, my lovely friend who made these for our wedding):

You will need a sheet of rectangular paper (color of your choosing), glue, tape, and ribbon (at least one inch thick, color of your choosing).

Fold the piece of paper in half, the long way.

Fold the sides in half again, so you have quartered the paper.

The center fold (shown in red, below) will be the corner that sticks out, while the red end-flaps will be tucked on top of each other and glued.

Apply glue to one of the end flaps.

Fold the opposite end flap over, and completely onto the glued side.

Glue ribbon onto the lower end of the prism with a centimeter gap from the actual bottom. The ends of the ribbon should be glued on one side, so the back will look like this:

Now glue the ribbon to the upper end of the prism, with a centimeter gap from the top. The ends should be glued to the back of the prism, so the back will look like this:

To attach the prism to a pew, you will need ribbon. The length of ribbon you’ll need will vary depending upon the width of the top of the pew (which will be approximately two feet). Loop the ribbon around the top of the pew, and cross the ribbon in front. Then, tape the cross to the pew, so that the ribbon is secure.

Then, loop two pieces of tape so the sticky sides are facing out. Attach tape loops to the top and bottom of the back of the triangular paper prism. For added security, add a middle tape loop.

Tape the triangular prism to the pew. The ribbon on the upper part of the prism should cover the crossed ribbon on the pew.

I love that you’ve clearly used a CAD program! I am a mechanical engineer as well and I’m hoping that I can use AutoCAD (since it is available to me) for most of my DIY projects. Were you able to use an architectural/engineering CAD program for any of your DIY projects??

PS - I made a similar version of these. I used paper towel holders and glued ribbon all the way around them. I created a bottom for heavier flowers so that they wouldn’t fall through. I just used masking tape and secured an end using that. I then covered it with the ribbon. Purchased flowers that were two large lilies per stem and got 50% off at Hobby Lobby. Cost about $30 to make for 14 pews.

NoraB- my friend, whose not an engineer, actually created these… i actually did not use any autocad programs for my wedding, but i did think about it. i just ran out of time. haha.

Lindsay K- let me ask my friend and get back to you.

I use Babies Breath, so the flowers stayed by itself only filling the top portion of the prism.

If you want to add a long stem flower like a rose or lily:

1) Then I would cut a centimeter at the three corners of the bottom of the prism, so you have three flaps.
2) Fold one flap and cut the edges of the flap so it looks like a trapezoid and would fold into the hole of the prism. Do this to the other two flaps.
3) Glue the bottom with a strong adhesive, possibly a glue gun. After you have glued the bottom use a ruler to press down the bottom of the prism to insure good contact.

The add the ribbon.
