The Wedding Bands: D-U-N, Done

September 23rd, 2008 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Avocado

I have been getting a lot of things in the mail lately, but the box containing our wedding bands was one of my favorite deliveries. Christen exceeded my expectations with her detailed craftsmanship, and I can only hope that the groom will end up wearing his, as he didn’t give any input in the design or ordering of the bands (he doesn’t really want to wear one, but I told him he has to try).

I love the fine grain texture even more than I anticipated I would, and I think it is going to be just the width he was looking for. He didn’t really give me any input at all, so it’s going to end up being a surprise to him on the wedding day.

I ordered three stacking rings with a hammered texture, and each of the rings is inscribed inside of each band. The outer rings are inscribed with our names, and the insides are inscribed with the quote that has morphed into the central theme of our wedding.

“Are we not like two volumes of the same book?”

When I wear all three rings together, our names act as bookends to the quote. I love this little, private detail that the casual observer will never know about.

Our rings cost a total of $105 with shipping. Yes, they are not made of the sturdiest metal money can buy, and yes they will tarnish with age, but I ordered them fully aware of both of those facts (and the tarnishing I am actually kind of excited about). It meant more to me to stay under budget and find something personalized and unique for us as a couple. I don’t plan on wearing my wedding bands all the time, unless I am in Poland, since wedding bands are worn on the right ring finger there and I really just wanted them for that reason. I also wanted the rings because I wanted to have actual rings for us to give to each other at our ring exchange ceremony. :)

What small detail about your engagement ring/wedding band makes you smile whenever you see it?

I previously posted about the soldering and engraving, check out the whole process, as it is quite cool to see how they developed!

Beautiful! I love your rings - so unique, and I love the secretive touch. Do you have a way to keep all 3 rings together for your ring exchange ceremony? I’d be afraid of dropping at least one, no thanks to my klutziness!

There are five tiny stones in addition to the solitaire on my engagement ring. But you can only see four. The fifth is directly under the solitaire and I think of it as my special secret diamond :) It’s silly but makes me smile.

I think your rings are really sweet and the bookend concept is such a nice sentiment.

They look great. I think private details should be a part of every romance story.

Why doesn’t he want to wear a ring?

My husband is not a jewelry guy and I almost couldn’t even picture him wearing a ring at all. I told him since he was going to be the one wearing it, he could pick out whatever ring he wanted to. Luckily, he found a great “manly” looking ring and loves wearing it now.

They are so nice! Now I’m going to have to check out your designer and get something fun for myself.

And I also wonder - what is up with the not wearing a wedding ring thing? I don’t erally get it. My DH left his home by accident one day (had been making meatloaf the night before and just left it in the kitchen windowsill where he took it off) and about had a fit when he realized it wasn’t on his finger. He was unhappy all day (he has about a 45 minute commute, or he would have run home at lunch to retrieve it). He’s not a jewelry guy either, but he loves his ring almost as much as I love mine.

I think that is really sweet how personal your rings are. I think jewelry is a personal thing and its your choice to wear it or not. Marriage isn’t about a ring anyways!

I love my ring because it was a total surprise and he picked it out himself! I had no idea my fiance was even shopping for a ring when he proposed. Its perfect and I couldn’t have asked for something more beautiful :)

Those are really beautiful and sweet! Not to be rude, but what is up with people commenting on her FH’s choice? Just because he wont wear the ring sometimes does not mean he loves her less. It’s not our place to judge people in these situations.

I heart the stacking rings. That quote is precious.

@Katie: I am starting to think some ribbon might be in order. He will be holding them, so I am sure he would like something to keep him from dropping one and embarassing himself.

@Michelle: Maybe he will get used to the idea and we can get him something he likes better after the wedding….

@Dani: How exciting! Isn’t she great to work with?

@Natakie16: I’m used to it by now, and I don’t think they are trying to be rude. I think they are just not used to the idea since they are lucky enough to have men that love their rings!
