Travel Through Our Guestbook…

September 24th, 2008 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Peppermint

First off, hello hive!! I’ve missed you! I know it’s been a long time since I last posted, but I’m back…

I thought I’d kick it off with a post about our guest book. To remind you, we got married in Palm Springs last December. While neither Mr. Peppermint nor I are from there, it had long been a special getaway for us. We had family coming from all parts of California as well as Virginia, Minnesota, Wisconsin and New York. We wanted our guest book to reflect this travel theme, so we settled on postcards! Basically, the week before the wedding when we were out in Palm Springs getting ready, we went to tourist gift shops, antique stores and anywhere we could find postcards (new and vintage) of Palm Springs and the outlying areas. During the reception, we had guests fill them out and drop them off in a caddy that also doubled as a pen holder. Originally, I was going to find a mailbox, but couldn’t find one that was just the right size.

Here is how it was set up at the reception:

After we got back from our honeymoon, Mr. Peppermint and I assembled an album with the postcards. It was such a nice treat to revisit all of the wishes and kind notes that guests had written…

The cover picture was taken from our programs and thank you cards:

Here is what the inside of the album looks like:

A sample postcard:

I’m really happy we decided to do the postcard guest book. I think guests were inspired to write more than they would have. And now, it not only serves as a book of kind thoughts of family and friends on our wedding day, but we have a picture book of Palm Springs through the years!

Are you having an alternative guest book?  Share with us your creative ideas!

This is a great idea. It encourages people to write more than a couples words which is what we were trying for with ours but alas, it didn’t happen.

That turned out great! What an original idea. Very fun and not complicated (like my scrapbook guest pages).

Doing the same thing :) I was trying to figure out how to display them, or what to do with them after it was over and I think that book will work just perfect ;)

I love how the book turned out! Awesome!

We had a guitar-guestbook. I haven’t gotten pro-pics to show it off yet on my blog, but it turned out so freakin’ fabulous! I bought a white electric guitar on ebay for $99 an we had people sign it with brown ultra-fine sharpies. It’s not a beautiful piece of art for our music-room!

this is what i want to do! i’m so glad you posted about it since now i have a visual reference that i can point to instead of haphazardly describe it. i’m glad to hear it worked out for you!

I had seen a guestbook table on the knot with a sign asking for “wishes, wit, and wisdom.” I took that a little further and made three boxes, one for each.

LOVE the guitar idea, though.

We have something similar in mind as well! Like one of the previous commenters, I’d love to know what you had as your instructions! :o)

This is a phenomenal idea - especially since my fiance and I plan to interweave some of our extensive travels into our wedding day. Like previous posters, I would love to know the instructions you framed - turquoise1118@yahoo.com

Thanks!
