About Mrs. Taffy

In Part 1, you heard all about the tricky time I had trying to find a bridesmaid dress searching by color. My lovely maid of honor and I embarked on a journey to find the perfect dress, and kept our fingers crossed that I would be happy with a blue from that designer’s palette. After a day of searching, we fell in love with this dress (don’t mind my renegade shooting, the poor boutique lighting, or Miss L’s bra!):

Alfred Angelo Style #6133

Here is the full dress:

The black sash and bow was exactly what I was looking for! I love how vintage it looks, and it goes perfectly with the bow on our save the dates.

t3

We really love that the sash is sewn in, so the ladies won’t have to worry about it coming undone. Also, it is sewn in at the top but the bottom of the sash hangs over the rest of the dress, which creates a very flattering silhouette. Miss L demonstrates:

Now, for the color!

Initially I thought that Alfred Angelo’s cornflower blue was a good color choice. Miss L and I took a cornflower skirt off the racks and placed the black ribbons from the dress over it so we could get an idea of how the dress would look in that color. It was kind of gray and looked good with the black sash. I really thought it was the color to go with, although I was worried that it would look too gray or dull in pictures.

t5

Although I thought this was “the color”, we weren’t ready to place the dress order yet. This might be a good time to add that all of this bridesmaid dress and color research was done before I knew what my dress was going to look like. I guess I was anxious to get a color palette in place, but was very overwhelmed about making a decision about my wedding dress (makes no sense, I know).

Fast forward a few weeks…

I had decided on the color and style of my wedding dress (more on this soon!). I also found a beautiful blue ribbon that I plan on wearing around the waist of my dress. The ribbon was a beautiful blue-green, and it came in every width under the sun. I completely fell in love with the color, and started brainstorming ways I could work the smaller ribbons into our ceremony decor. There was only one problem…
It completely clashed with the cornflower blue. It clashed sooo badly, I won’t even post a picture. Eeeesh.

I promptly took the ribbon to our boutique and chose another color that complimented the ribbon. I must not have liked the cornflower as much as I thought, because it didn’t bother me at all to pick a new one! Here’s the new (and final!) color:

t6

It’s robin’s egg blue. We placed the blue ribbon that I will be wearing over the blue dress so you can see how they compliment each other:

The bridesmaid dresses have been ordered, and I am very happy with the color palette. Whew.

Miss L and I drove to the dress shop yesterday to take these images to show you, as Alfred Angelo’s website has awful Photoshopped images to show the different colors, and they don’t look anything like the actual fabric! I also think the dress is way cuter in person than on the website and in the magazine ads (and than in these quick images I took). It’s a popular dress, but the color scheme (white sash, celery dress) they were using in their ads did not appeal to me, and although I liked the bow, I didn’t think much of the dress until Miss L tried it on. It’s amazing how different the dress looks with a black sash versus a white one.

On the way home from our excursion, we had a little surprise:

t8

Miss L had a flat tire. We were heading back to Ann Arbor for more fun filled adventures, but this put a wrench in our plans.

t9

Boo…

t10

But wait!

Mama Taffy had recently given me a road service card that was valid no matter where I happened to be (my car already has road service, but my mom wanted me to be okay in case anything happened while I was driving with friends).

Yay!

t11

What a day. I’m so happy that we found a color that we love.

Did any of you make a last minute change on the bridesmaid dresses before ordering?

My MOH had those bridesmaids’ dresses for her wedding! I agree about the difference with the white sash vs the black sash. I didn’t get to try it on before she ordered them (was living across the state), but I had seen pictures of it with a black sash and really liked it. However, she ordered them red with a white sash, and I didn’t like it nearly as much as I had with the black, although they weren’t bad.

Anyway, I love how the color complements your ribbon!

I wore that dress in the grey-blue color in my brother’s wedding.
If you want some “real wedding photos” let me know! It was a really fun dress to wear! Very easy to move in but it has just a little bit of poof to it which is fun. :)

@Miss Fondue: It is crazy how much of a difference it makes. We went to a wedding this summer, and the same dress. They were green with a white sash. I remember thinking the bow was so cute, but “meh” about the rest of the dress.
@erinp123: Oh good, I’m glad to know they were comfy! :) I did like the grey-blue color, but once I had the blue-green ribbon I had to pick the other shade.

They had the same dress, I mean. I’m typing a little too quickly today!

That was my wedding dress!!! I got it in white with a hunter green sash. It was very comfy, and perfect for our wedding. I really loved it! Hope your girls enjoy it as much as I did.

@bonniebelle101: That’s awesome! The hunter green sash sounds really pretty. I’m glad to hear all the comfy factor input, I will gladly tell the ladies! :)
