Remember the Invite

September 25th, 2008 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Caramel

Who really remembers cards and invitations? Well, ever since Mr. Caramel and I have started to pack for our NYC move, we realized that we have to trash a lot of sentimental things that we don’t want to forget.  One of the things we had to throw away were our wedding cards and extra invitations.  Since so much thought went into picking our cards and invitations, I couldn’t bear to just throw them away without some type of documentation, especially the really beautiful ones!

So… I took pictures of them!

How adorable are these??

The handmade ones are always the most amazing!

My soon-to-be cousin is the one who made the butterfly card, and she also recently made her own wedding invitations. They are so gorgeous that I just had to share! She has her own website and designs other people’s invitations, and she also designs wedding rings and jewelry. How can some people be so talented?!

Their reservation card had a silhouette of them on it—it looked a lot like them!

Will you be able to save all of the cards you got for your wedding? How are you storing or remembering them?

That’s always tough! When I was younger I kept a memory box for such items (like paper awards, 16th birthday cards, etc.) Its just a small box that has allowed me to hold onto a few memories that I want to keep tucked away. I plan to do the same with our wedding cards and invitations. Its tough to part with all that stuff because it has a nice memory attached to it, but you don’t want to fill up your new place with wedding cards and extra invitations!

Another idea (and something I’ve done before), is make a scrapbook. Attach your favorite cards and an extra invitation so you have another book to keep with your wedding album.

We are memory-boxing ours. I have shelves and shelves of photo albums and scrapbooks, and several memory boxes. And I have lived (in the last 20 years) in three condos, five apartments, and four houses in six different states. I’ve let a trail of gently used washers and dryers, and a fair amount of furniture behind, but I’m not willing to give up the kind of things that can’t be replaced. My sister and I have a lot of fun memories of sorting through my mom and dad’s wedding cards, which she keeps in a box in her cedar chest. Right now ours are in a basket, while I look for the right box…

I cut ‘em up!

No, really. I cut out anything handwritten, some nice images or patterns, a nice printed sentiment or two, and put them in the wedding scrapbook. Me personally, if I hadn’t done that right away, I’d have kept them forever, in a dusty box that I’d never look at, and eventually become a hoarder/cat lady. This way, I kept all the “important” parts, and it’s all of four pages.

i am keeping every single one in it’s tact in this birdcage I got from target that also served as the card cage. It was just big enough to house them all but not overbearingly huge to keep out of site. Its on my side table in my living room. I might do something later with them but not now. I like to open it up on our anniversary and reread everything. I know when we have kids (if we do) we need to find a way to scrapbook it or something.

I agree with those that said this stuff is worth lugging around. My mother passed away when I was young and my sister found her scrapbooks when we were looking for her ring (which I wear) and she’d kept EVERYTHING. From her movie tickets from her and my dad’s first date to every single card she received at the wedding. My sister (MOH) and I spent a night drinking wine and going through these with a big box of kleenex. That night will be one of my best wedding memories by far! :) I’m so, so glad she kept all of it.

I plan on making a collage out of all of them and hanging it in my hallway! I’m a sentimental person and it would kill me to throw them out…but this way we get to see it everyday and be reminded of all the love that surrounded us that day!

I kept all the cards and glued them into a scrapbook and included a picture of that guest at the wedding. Sometimes I like to read the cards again and remember all the well wishes.
