A Wedding in a Week: Getting Ready

September 25th, 2008 @ 3:56 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

After this post, it is time to say goodbye to our wedding in a week and get back to planning our October wedding. I just wanted to share with you some final photos and tidbits, beginning with a little better shot of my dress:

A Wedding in a Week: Getting Ready : wedding pictures pittsburgh wedding dress 100 097The reason for the wrap was two fold.

Since I didn’t have time for any alterations, the fit was not quite right. The top of the dress was a bit too loose. No one else probably would have noticed, but it made me more comfortable to wear the shawl. I am going to take it to a seamstress to add straps before it makes another appearance for the rehearsal and dinner. The second reason was the coming of fall. It was a bit chilly out, and I felt silly baring so much skin.

When my parents were married, my paternal grandmother made a hanky for my mom to carry with her down the aisle. She tucked it into her waistband and I pinned it under the lace of my gown.

A Wedding in a Week: Getting Ready : wedding pictures pittsburgh wedding dress 100 09401Getting ready was not the normal big to-do for this wedding. Mr. Pineapple left about 20 minutes ahead of me so I could slip on my dress without him seeing, and add a little lip gloss. As you can see, I decided to wear my glasses, fearing I would start to cry and lose my contacts.

Did you carry anything special with you down the aisle?

Love your posts!

I did have a hanky from my favorite aunt for my wedding. It did not have a family history, but I had tiny wedding (10 people) and it was her way to be there, reminding me of her. I pinned it to my bouquet where the stems were wrapped with ribbon.

Now that I think of it, my “something blue” was my Mom’s wedding garter! She was at the wedding, but it was nice to wear something she wore on her wedding day.

My memere passed away the year before our wedding. I intertwined her rosary beads in my bouquet to carry with me down the aisle.

I wrapped the groom’s baptismal baby bonnet around my bouquet. His aunt had brought it at the last minute and kind of apologetically asked if maybe I could hold it something, and I was like, awesome! and just tied it right on there. I’m not sure what she was expecting me to say–no?

@Mrs. Bee: a bit! it is probably even weirder for those who don’t read the site regularly :)

why not just save the money? If everyone knows you already married, are they still coming in october?

That dress IS awesome!

I pinned a starfish broach to my bouqet - the same broach I wore for the first time in March to my dad’s funeral. It was, for me, a way to have him with me.

@You: Since it’s so close to the October wedding, I would think that Mrs. Pineapple would not save much money by canceling the October wedding since she has probably paid a lot of it already. Additionally, while I don’t know about her particular situation…I know that my family would probably be upset if I canceled my wedding and they didn’t get to see it…even if I had already gotten legally married before the actual wedding.
