I am completely thrilled and relieved to say that we have booked our photographer!!!

Her name is Melissa Squires, and her business is called a girl in love. I am so pleased that we have found Melissa and that she had our wedding date clear. My heart actually fluttered when I read that she was available.

I am a photographer, and this made my search process a bit more difficult and intense than I thought it would be. In the beginning, I convinced myself that I wouldn’t be too picky, but after meeting with five different photographers in person (and researching countless others online), I was ready to give up. We had been going by references, but still weren’t seeing the type of style that we were hoping for.

I actually came across Melissa by using Google to find Ann Arbor photographers, and the minute I saw her images, I knew she was the one.

When we met in person, I really knew she was the one! She was super nice and friendly, and it turns out that she also studied under my favorite photography professor at the University of Michigan! And she was just within reach of our budget. Whew! I was ready to cut in some other areas if she wasn’t—photography is a huge priority for us.

Her bridal shots are amazing. Having a separate bridal session with her is almost as much motivation to find a great job as saving for the wedding!

We just scheduled our engagement session for October 10th. That’s almost two weeks away *squeals*! I cannot wait to see how she interprets our relationship on film. Here is one of my favorite engagement shots by Melissa:

We are so excited. Starting this weekend, Mr. Taffy and I are going to scout out locations for our pictures. Melissa suggested going to an orchard, which I think is a great idea—I love her images in open fields. We are going to a few different orchards and some other outdoor locations to make sure we find the best fit. A full update of our search will start next week!
