OOT Bags!

September 26th, 2008 @ 10:53 am by Mrs. Hydrangea

Following in the footsteps of Miss Sundae, we bought our OOT bags from cheaptotes.com. The first totes that I ordered were entirely too small (math = not Miss Hydrangea’s strong suit). So they happily exchanged them for another type of bag and we opted to get these black and white reusable grocery tote bags:

They were a little pricier then the others, coming in at $1.29 a piece, but we have very few OOT bags to create, so we only purchased 25. Luckily, they came in handy for my bridesmaids gifts, and I still have some leftover so I can have cute totes for when I go grocery shopping—yay for no more plastic bags!

Some of the padrinos in our wedding happen to have a screen printing company (they do embroidery as well), and they were kind enough to print our monogram on all of the bags. I have to warn you, if you chose to go this route, that because of the type of material these bags are made of, the screen printing process can’t be done as well because of the heat. Therefore, there’s a chance that the monogram will one day fall off, but I’m so happy with how they look for now. ;)

Each bag will contain two water bottles, various snacks that I am wrapping in cellophane bags with our monogram stickers to keep them closed, a copy of the Dallas CVB (Convention Visitor Bureau) Magazine, and a TRAVELHOST magazine.

What creative things have you done with your packaging for the OOT bags?

I think we are going to do baskets. I would love to do bags but my mom has a lot of extra baskets and there is no point in us spending the money if we don’t have to.

Something I found cool was when we went to the visitors bureau to get pamphlets, they told us they would send us some. A week or two later we got a huge box of all different kinds of information about our town and visitor’s information. They were really cool about it.

We did canvas bags and I stenciled our monogram on it with fabric paint. Several people asked me where I had them printed, including my stationary-suite designer! Part of me was so glad they turned out so nicely people thought they were professional, but part of me felt a little bummed that people didn’t realize I was so crafty, capable, and $-conscious…haha :)

I too bought mine through cheaptotes.com. They have not arrived yet but should be here any day. I am stenciling love birds on the front, and inside filling them with a framed engagement photo, a yummy-smelling candle in a tin in our wedding colors, a door hanger with lovebirds on top that says “Nesting… Please do not disturb” which I made myself, a schedule of events and directions, and info on the area (most people are traveling in).

If you are looking for a less expensive alternative, I just ordered some gable boxes for our OOT guests. http://www.uline.com/BL_5618/Gable-Boxes?searchedkeywords=gable … I chose the 9×6x6 ones and they are even nicer than I expected. I also designed welcome stickers at http://www.zazzle.com that I will use with some ribbon to dress them up.
