The First Dance

September 26th, 2008 @ 2:29 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

Mr. PN and I don’t have “a song” and there is no particular song that we relate too (at least not something appropriate for a first wedding dance). I listened to dozens of songs trying to put together a list of possible choices. After narrowing it down to about six songs, I presented the list to Mr. PN, and he made the final decision. We will be dancing for the first time as husband and wife to Songbird by Eva Cassidy. I had never heard this song before searching for wedding dance songs. I think the song is so beautiful and it gives me goose bumps whenever I hear it!

You may remember that Mr. PN and I took a ballroom dance class this summer. Well, because Songbird isn’t your standard Waltz or Fox trot, we decided to sign up for private lessons to get more guidance. We have most of the steps down but I am nervous about how it will work out once I put on the big white dress. I think it will really affect our steps, but we will only have a chance to do one run through before the reception.

Did your wedding dress affect your dancing?

It’s a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song. Isn’t it amazing? Look up the original too!

It is a Fleetwood Mac song. It’s a beautiful song. I haven’t heard this version before, but the original has always given me goosebumps. It’s perfect for a first dance.

Could you practice in your crinoline? That way he wouldn’t see your gown but it would still allow you to alter the steps as necessary beforehand.

My FH thinks our first dance is going to be to “Songbird” but I have a trick up my sleeve. I’m a singer, and this weekend I am going into the studio with a couple of musician friends to record a version of “Just Like Heaven” similar to Katie Melua’s. Our processional song is the original by “The Cure” and it reminds us of the start of our love affair. : ) It’s a surprise for him.

Im just a bad dancer. Period. Hopefully my dress will hide my feet! Mr. Dumpling wont take dance lessons. He says he already has all the dancing skillz needed for an awesome first dance. If he only knew………

Yes, my dress did. Probably because it was two-point bustle and when I did a fast turn, the bustle part whomped Mr. Bean in the legs and knocked us off beat. But everyone said that the dance looked lovely, so that’s good! :)

Songbird by Fleetwood Mac is my holy grail of wedding songs! We were going to do this for our first dance but it’s kind of slow and I will probably cry all over the place so…we decided to do it for when I walk down the aisle (so I can cry all over the place then). Yes. And somehow we are going to let the whole song play because all the lyrics are so right. I feel like its my love song to my FI in front of the world. It’s a love letter to music, really.
