Paul Newman + Joanne Woodward - A Tribute

September 28th, 2008 @ 10:06 am by Miss Flip Flop

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward are far and above my favorite Hollywood marriage. I hope that she’ll have all of his amazing accomplishments to comfort her now that he’s passed.

Hear hear! Man, it was sad to hear about Paul’s death this morning. Their long marriage was so unusual in Hollywood - go them! I am reminded of a quote from Friends when Chandler is freaking out about marrying Monica:
“The only person who can make marriage work is Paul Newman! And I’ve *met* me; I am no Paul Newman. I don’t race cars, I don’t make popcorn…none of my proceeds go to charity!”

I started sobbing in front of my husband and his parents when I heard the news about Paul Newman’s passing. Such a loss.

Beautiful!

But I think that WE have his accomplishments to comfort us, now that he’s gone. But I think SHE has the memory of being his wife, his love, and his companion to comfort her. :)

Such a beautiful and talented man. He was one of my first on-screen crushes. May he rest in peace.

He was such a beam of light in what can be a succubus (sp?) of an industry. I say that with love, as it is my industry after all. His passion for life, and for sharing it with her, were awe inspiring. I read a quote from him recently. To paraphrase, he didn’t see why his being a sex symbol was any reason to commit adultery. Well said.

When questioned about his long lasting marriage and adultery, I read somewhere he said, “I have steak at home. Why would I go out for a hamburger?”
:) Well said, indeed. :)

When my husband and I were married last year, we based our vows on those of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. How could we go wroing in choosing vows that started one of the best Hollywood marriages? One of the best marriages, period.
