All Dolled Up

Requisite before shot, I think I like this look even better.
When it came to having my hair and make-up done for the wedding, I had a plan, a good one, but no back-up. So, when it came to the hair trial, I was really hoping things would go well.
Our wedding is going to take place in downtown Pittsburgh. The club that is hosting our festivities, and where we will be getting ready the morning of, is on the 4th-7th floors of the building. Coincidentally, there is a hair salon on the second floor. The salon is part of a regional chain called Philip Pelusi. I have been going to two different branches since moving to Pittsburgh, and have always been very happy with the results. The price is right too, about $35 for your average haircut and style.
I had my trial scheduled for the morning of my bridal shower so that I had a reason to look fancy pants. It also worked out well because I could confirm with my friends whether or not it was the right look for me. Mom Pineapple came along with me and also had her hair cut. She is almost as bad as I am when it comes to going to the salon; for her it had been a year since her last cut and for me 18 months.
Here are two of my inspiration images:
She first dyed my hair back to what is probably my natural color, a deep brown. Then she cut off about 4 inches; my hair was in bad shape. Then she straighten and curled it, putting it halfway up like in the second photo. It just didn’t feel like me. I look a lot younger than I am to begin with (in fact, the stylist thought I was the 17 year old little sister of the bride from another bridal party who was in there at the same time we were) ,and it made me look even younger. I felt like a middle school homecoming queen or something, not a bride.
So, I asked her to take it down. Sorry the photo is fuzzy, my mom’s camera seemed to be on the fritz.
Soft and simple, done and done.
For make-up I didn’t bring any of my inspiration photos with me - I just used some of the key phrases you all taught me. 
I pretty much just told her that I was thinking I would like warm colors and nothing too over the top. She said, oh good, me too!

It is a very soft look. I think it will look very glam with paired with your dress and veil.

I think its just a different you that people are not used to, not better than everyday you. Instead of cute/pretty you look sultry/pretty. I think its cool.

not to be too honest, but the top seems a bit flat for being just done… I could understand it flattening out later in the day with the weight of the hair and all, but? Did she blow dry it out to straighten it or did she use a flat iron? You would likely love your look if the try a blow out and then curl approach… Please Note: You will still be a stunning bride if this look (pictured above) ends up being your look on your wedding day!
I think it looks stunning down and the makeup looks great too. The down style definitely makes you look older (not old though!) which definitely sounded like what you wanted.

@karianne: well, we had been messing with it putting it up and taking it down so we incidentally pulled out some of the curl. hopefully the day of the oopmh will stay a little longer.
@jtg: awe thanks I say probably natural because living in Florida is was always sun bleached lighter than natural and I have dyed it a lot since moving up north. i like the darkness, it looks natural and more dramatic than the ruddy brown it was
oh and this trial was a week before my other wedding so the color is the same as it was in those photos…

I know what you mean about looking young — I got my hair cut the other day, and my stylist thought I was in high school. Grr. But I’ve been told it pays off when we’re in our 40s and 50s.

I think the reason you look different is because you’re not wearing your glasses. I think you look beautiful! Are you wearing glasses or contacts the day of your wedding?

I think you look gorgeous, too! I live in the Pittsburgh area, too, and I love Philip Pelusi. I go to the salon in Squirrel Hill. I wish I had one nearby for my wedding day!
and there is nothing wrong with looking younger than your age. you should embrace your youth, and not fight it!
I think you would look better with a bit more volume in your hair, and maybe a bit more BAM for the eyes, you have great eyes, you should enhance them a bit more…all in all you are a beautiful bride and no matter what you decide for your big day you will look great!
I LOVE this look on you! Very soft and elegant. I think maybe why people said you look a little different is because we’re all used to seeing you with glasses. I think you will look equally as elegant with or without your glasses on that day. But perhaps that’s why some people said you didn’t look like yourself? Trust me - you look beautiful!! And you will make a stunning bride! I cannot wait to see the pictures!!!!
@Tiffany: Thanks Tiff! I think you are right about the glasses. They really do make a big difference. Here on weddingbee people know me only with glasses, but for 23 years of my life I didn’t wear glasses at all. So, half of the guests have never even seen me with them and would probably think I looked like a different person with them on.
plus, I don’t wear glasses when working either because I can’t get my eye close enough to the viewfinder

Alas! We don’t have hair and make up trials here. We just take along our dresses on the wedding day and offer ourselves with the artists to turn us into heavenly creatures *pun intended*.
