All’s Veil that Ends Veil

September 29th, 2008 @ 5:36 pm by Mrs. Jelly Beans

In the beginning, I thought I had made up my mind that there was no way I was going to succumb to wearing a veil. No way Jose!

I put on my first veil during my first ever fitting and I was hooked. At that point there was no turning back. I knew I wanted a simple, no edging veil. I picked a short veil with tons of rhinestones. Perfect for me, I thought!

Then I started looking through wedding videos from the Philippines, and that’s where my obsession with the drop veil was born.

I searched locally but the closest they had here in Ottawa was the mantilla. Gorgeous but just not quite what I had envisioned. I finally found an online store called veilshop. They had an awesome tutorial describing types of veils, different lengths, edging, colors and accents.

I knew for sure I wanted a drop veil, so that made my decision making process easier. I ordered free swatches to make sure that the veil color matched my dress. I spent more than the budget alloted for a veil because mine ended up as a special order with the added crystals. But oh did they sparkle!!! To this day I absolutely, positively still have a love affair with my veil! :)

I absolutely did NOT want a veil. I tried on a few just to give the dresses an overall effect. And then came the mantilla - it was love and it was purchased! LOL!

See, it’s photos like yours that remind me why I chose a long drop veil too! That first picture, especially, is spectacular! Two questions: (1) How easy was it to link arms with your Dad with the veil everywhere, and (2) how easy was it for your hubby to lift up the veil and get it back over your head when it’s so long and cumbersome? These questions are worrying me!

Who was your photographer? The pics are beautiful.

I too thought, oh there is no way I’m wearing a veil, but then I went veil shopping w/ a friend a month or so ago and I fell in LOVE w/ a veil - now there is no way I am NOT wearing one.

I thought I didn’t want a veil, then I saw all the cute birdcage veils and thought that that was what I wanted. I ordered the material, made my own, but now, I put it on with the dress and it just doesn’t seem right. So, I am thinking now of switching to a long (fingertip or longer) veil. I don’t know what to do!

I wasn’t sure about whether I wanted a veil — except I knew that I didn’t want anything over my face. That went out the window the first time I tried one on! Seeing myself with the blusher down finally made me feel like a bride.

Your veil is gorgeous. Thanks for the specs — I’m going to get the exact same one, I think. I mean, if I can look half as beautiful as you do, I’d be on cloud nine.

I second Miss HC! You and your veil are both absolutely stunning!!

I didn’t want a veil until they plopped one on my head at the bridal shop and I was sold! This is a bit off topic - but did you do your own makeup? I’m going for a similar look w/ makeup. Just wondering…

Lovely! I love your veil. I’ve been cautious about ordering lots of merchandise from the internet, mostly because of tariffs that can be slammed onto merchandise shipped from the US into Canada. Some vendors mail it to you, which results in no tariffs. Others declare the goods, so that tariffs are charged. I’m not sure why it happens one way and not the other.

Miss JellyBean, were the tariffs from veilshop to Canada reasonable?

I had originally said NO VEIL. In the first 3 dress shops, I politely told the ladies that I had lost my father and had no desire to have a constant reminder in my face as I walked down the aisle.

It wasn’t until I found the one, that I opened my eyes to the idea of a veil. I also did not know that you could by a veil and not drape it over your face.

The lady who eventually sold me my dress appreciated my reasoning and was very polite in her way of presenting the veil to me. After she placed the veil on my head, I couldn’t have pictured my dress without it. It completed my look.

Katharine- I had no issues linking arms with my dad at all.. I kinda prepped for it before we walked down the aisle. My dad had no problems lifting it either. We tried it out when I was getting ready! :)

Drb- go with your gut! I’m sure whatever you choose will look amazing! :)

Thanks Miss Hot Cocoa *blushing* I am sure it will look amazing on you…. The veil is beautiful…

Carly7215- Thanks! I didnt do my own make up… that is sooo not my department….

Krista- I honestly cant remember how much I was charged. But i think I factored in the costs before I ordered. I think UPS charges the most taxes from my experience.

Thanks Mrs Bee… it feels great to be back! :)

Miss Sweet Tea- I have been obsessed with Jason Magbanua’s wedding videos… I still frequent his blog… he’s the reason I just had to have the drop veil… :)

Miss Dumpling- It was secured with a hat pin and I had no issues, surprisingly, pulling the veil back. The veil length in the front was shorter too… I am a clutz as well and I walked sloooow…. :)

Thanks Miss Flip Flop! You are too sweet! :) *waves*

Wow, your veil just made it that much more magical. The drop veil worked really well with the shape of your dress. Loves it. And your glow just shone through…

I too was adamant about not having a veil and my now husband felt the same way. But when my mom and moh made me try a veil with my dress, it just completed the look. And then the search was on for the perfect won’t cost me an arm and a leg. I did after a long tiring search. The funny thing was, maybe the veil was trying to tell me something though because day of the wedding, my moh got it caught and the bottom of the veil ripped a little (no one could see it though and I had to reassure her that all was ok) and then when my husband and I were doing the recessional it popped out of my hair and onto the ground. We got a laugh from our guests though when he tried to put it back on all askew on my head. All was well though and hopefully we got some good shots of all this….pictures from our photogs aren’t due for another 2 weeks. =)

I was the exact same way- I didn’t want a veil at all but when I tried one on with my dress, I knew I had to have one. And then when I saw the drop veil in photos… looooove. So I’m also having a drop veil. :)

You looked gorgeous, Mrs. JB! And the crystal on the veil are fantastic.
