For the Rest of the Girls!

September 29th, 2008 @ 9:31 am by Mrs. Hydrangea

I mentioned in my bridesmaid gift post that I created necklaces for all of the girls. I actually made these necklaces for all of the bridesmaids, readers, and house party. Now that the rehearsal dinner is over, I can share with you my creations! :)

We live in a small town east of Dallas, but the funny thing is that there is this incredible bead store in my hometown, which has caused Mom H and I to dabble in jewelry making for the past several years. We decided to take a quick class at our local bead store, and off I went to shop and create. After the class, I purchased sterling silver clasps and chain, as well as real pearls and Swarovski crystals. I played around with the lengths and with mixing the different beads.  Here are my results:

Here are three of the different necklaces. Sorry for the background, but those are the instructions that helped me to wire wrap the beads.

Here they are all wrapped and ready for the readers and house party! The black and white bags were found at Hobby Lobby—I love that place! :)

Did any of you dabble in jewelry making for your wedding?

The necklaces turned out great! I’m planning on making jewelry for my BMs, too.

I did earrings and triple-strand necklaces for the bridesmaids, as a unifying factor since they were picking their own dresses. As it turned out, one chose a dress that really, really wouldn’t work with a necklace, so we wrapped it around her wrist three times and called it a bracelet.
The neat thing is, although they were pretty honest with me about the fact that the dresses were all going on eBay the day after the wedding, they did admit they’d be keeping the jewelry.
Funny story: everything I know about jewelry making I learned from “The American Girls Book of Paper Clip Jewelry.” The pliers that came with the book are still my favorite pair!

I made swarovski bead necklaces with 3-strand earrings for a friend’s wedding (I was a maid). It was a bit tedious trying to make them to bride’s specifications when she had NO idea what she wanted at first, but figured it out through my trial and error :)

In the end, they looked great!

Beautiful! I love the Hobby Lobby; I visited one with FSIL Spring Roll in North Carolina last year. I wish we had one in Florida :(

Isn’t jewelry-making fun?? I DOVE into jewelry-making for our wedding, because I wanted very elaborate lariats for my bridesmaids (they had low-backed gowns). I made the lariats and bracelets for each of them, and I made a set for myself but didn’t end up wearing it (wore a simpler set instead). I continued with jewelry-making for a long time but then my hands really started cramping up so I stopped!

Here’s a picture of my blood, sweat, and tears (but TOTALLY worth it!)

And let me just add as BM H that the entire wedding was flawless, the gifts were personal and thoughtful, but most amazing thing was how calm and prepared the bride was!! I’ve never seen such a well done event (and I work for a company that does corporate events!). Well done Mrs. H!! Your hardwork paid off. Love Linds
