I must have been so excited about our save the dates that I forgot one of the most important parts - the envelope!!

Our colors are ivory, black and gold, and it seemed fitting to add the gold into the envelopes. Instead of paying someone else money to line them, I purchased some pretty paper from the Paper Store to line the envelopes. Another great and probably cheaper option is to use wrapping paper. I couldn’t find the right gold, so that didn’t work for me.
Step One: Make a template liner out of a thick paper - not cardboard thick, but thicker than the liner paper. I measured the template to fill the entire envelope. It obviously doesn’t have to go to the bottom of the envelope, but I liked the way it looked. Envelope lining is much much easier when the flap is pointed rather than round. You just simply follow the adhesive with the template.

Step Two: Using a cheap-o paper cutter from AC Moore, I cut the liners one by one using the template. It’s under the gold liner paper here.

Step Three: Fold the flap of the envelope back and insert the liners. Folding it back prevents the tape from sticking while the liner is inserted.

Step Four: Apply double sided tape next to the envelope adhesive.

Step Five: Press the liner down starting with the back and moving forward toward the tape.. Voila! Done…
You’ve seen our save the dates, and I gocco’d one of the swirls from the monogram to accent our return address on the flap. Using the gocco gold ink from Northwoods Studios, it was gorgeous and possibly my favorite part of our STDs! It’s the same swirl that was used on the cards sent to ask the bridal party to be in our wedding.

And the final product:
Another detail was our stamps. When researching postage options for our save the dates, it became very clear to me that we would be splurging on some custom stamps. The options just didn’t really fit our theme, and although the Forever stamp could work, we wanted something a little more personalized. Using Zazzle, we created a stamp with one of our engagement pics.

It’s the little details that make my day! What’s your favorite detail of your invites or STDs?
Great job!
Something that I learned the hard way after doing my DIY envelope-liners, is to also adhere the bottom part of the liner, not just the part on the flap (not sure if you did this or not). I open envelopes by ripping the seal on the flap, but I watched someone open their invitation envelope using a paper cutter. When they cut the top seam of the envelope, the bottom part of the liner (now separated from the top, and unadhered) was free to fall out!
(I hope that made sense … basically, I advise putting some double sided tape right under where the liner folds, on the body of the envelope too.)
