How Could I Say No?

September 29th, 2008 @ 11:24 am by Miss Ballet Flat

Mr. Ballet Flat and I have a pretty interesting relationship. Before he even proposed, we were already talking about our big day and spending the rest of our lives together!

When Mr. Ballet Flat proposed to me, I think he really did his homework. See, I’m pretty darn shy around strangers, and I get embarrassed very easily when attention is brought my way. So, in my head, I was hoping he wouldn’t do a public type of proposal when the time came. I didn’t want people to watch me bawl like a baby and turn a candy apple shade of red.

Mr. Ballet Flat proposed to me on my birthday. Minutes after it turned midnight on March 16, actually. At the time, Mr. Ballet Flat had just recently closed on what will be our first home, and we were spending the weekends there painting, cleaning and renovating the house. So, needless to say, around that time, I was half asleep and pretty out of it. I didn’t expect this to happen at all!

On a side note, to help you understand the proposal a bit more, Mr. Ballet Flat, during our relationship, would always play with my engagement finger. It was just a quiet symbol that something will be there soon, and each time he did it, I’d get little butterflies. I really can’t wait to be his wife. :)

When he proposed, he started playing with my finger again, but this time, I felt a ring. At first, I thought he was putting on my class ring that I placed next to the bed, kind of as a little joke. However, this band… no… this band was thinner. Wait a second, this ring… oh my goodness… he was PROPOSING! It was THE RING!

So, the tears started flowing automatically. I couldn’t even think straight. Mr. Ballet Flat jokingly asked me, “Why are you so sad?” Of course, that knocked me back into reality, and I’m pretty sure I said “Yes!” at least 10 times. I sprang out of bed to turn on a light to look at the ring, and I was in awe! Just look at this beauty!

I am so happy that Mr. Ballet Flat proposed in a more private way. It made for an awesome start to my 24th year, too!!

Did your fiance propose to you in a private or public way?

OH my goodness, that is too funny. My sweets did this almost exactly the same way. We were moving into our new house, my hair in shambles, no make up, and he asked me to move a box in the bedroom. THERE was my ring :)

YAY for moving into a new house and getting proposed to! Congrats!

Beautiful ring! Its so sweet for your FH to propose to you in a way that would make you feel super special and not embarrassed!

My fiance propsed in front of the Washington Monument in DC, so its safe to say it was pretty public. He kept it a total secret from me (I didn’t even know he was ring shopping), but told some close friends and family who were there to witness the whole thing. My smiles and tears have been captured on video tape! Its exciting for me to have that moment forever! :)

My (now) husband used to play with my ring finger before he proposed, too! One time I flat out asked him if he knew the significance of that particular finger! Luckily for me, he did :)

Mine was also very private. And very perfect. For Me! Here’s the link to my story (http://imaynotbefamous.blogspot.com/2008/08/perfect-proposal-fact-or-fiction.html)

I think it all just depends on the person like you said in your post, for what makes the perfect proposal !!!

Your ring is gorgeous! :)

That’s a gorgeous ring! My fiance proposed privately at a place that’s special to us but then had reservations at “our” restaurant, where the waiters had decorated our table with candles and flowers and everyone congratulated us. Best of both worlds :)

Aww, I love engagement stories. They always cause me to have the warm n fuzzies.

FI tried to do a quiet beach front proposal but I was tired and wouldn’t go. (I’m such a jerk!) So the next morning he said “cause you never know the right time, or the right place. This is the time. This is the place.”

And that’s all remember him saying cause after he handed me this pretty box all I could say was, “this is it, this is the ring. Is this it? This IS is. Is it?” He laughed. I cried.

Instead of a yes I said. “Oh my God, I have to call my mother!” Again…I’m such a jerk!

Ours was private but in a public place. It was on my birthday too, we took a horse-drawn carriage ride at a local outdoor mall (think Main Street Disney-type feel) which was all decorated with lights for the holiday season. He proposed to me on the carriage, right in front of the Apple store - how very fitting for him!

Cute story and pretty ring!

Ours was private, too. We went camping at our favorite place, Canyonlands in Utah, and as we were breaking camp on the last day, he proposed! (I think he was waiting for the ‘perfect time’ there, and he nearly ran out of time!) It was the day before his birthday, too. For us, it was the perfect place. :-D

That is so sweet! I love it!

(I love that he played with your ring finger all of the time before he proposed! We’re the same way, talking and planning with no ring, and J does the same thing with my finger! Such cute boys we have!)

So cute!

We had a combination - the proposal itself was private, but we were at Disney World, and had dinner with his parents less than 10 minutes later! Very publicly, lol.

@amy77jc - What a great proposal story! I agree, especially the part about the perfect proposal is the fact it was from HIM! :)
@ GJ, katie - Don’t you just love the finger thing? It really is cute!
@ Shasha - You are SO not a jerk. Trust me, it’s so exciting and I’m sure he was so excited that he heard a yes!!
@ KermitClin - LOL @ the Apple Store! Gotta love Macs!

March 16th is my MOH’s birthday too!
My FI also proposed in a private way and just after midnight but it was his birthday instead of mine. He asked if I would stay with him forever and be his wife as his present.
