Seating Card Completion Time: 1/2 a Movie

September 29th, 2008 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Espresso

Here’s the story: I put on Made of Honor, started making my seating cards, and by the time the main character was meeting with her pastor for the first time, I was done with them! Now I realize for those of you who haven’t seen it yet, that means nothing. So let me elaborate… I’d say half the movie, maybe not even that far, I was done making the seating cards. So niicceee.

I decided to go with the seating cards around the tree idea that I talked about in August. Here was my inspiration:

Instead of doing flat card stock, I decided to use white gift tags to hang around the tree instead. This is what I started with. The tags and stamps are from Michaels and the ink pads are left over from our invitation project.

And this is what they look like stamped. They’ll hang from the tree in this direction, and the names of our guests will be written down the stems.

I used a lot of this ink for our invitation envelopes, so I needed to make good use of each ink press. I was able to get about 2- 3 seating cards done from each inked stamp. The color variation is pretty slight and I really don’t think anybody will even notice.

The other half of our seating cards I stamped with 2 brown birds. The names of our guests and table #’s will go in the center of these. (Sorry for the dark color- I took these under a different light.) The bird seating cards will be alternated in between the green dandelion ones.

So to sum it all up:

Gift Tags for 180 people: $17.91

Dandelion Stamp: $5.39

Bird Stamp: $3.59

Total: $29.89

The time and money I put into this project is perfect for the Budget Bride with No Time.

What are you doing for your seating cards?

What a pretty idea! I used the same little bird stamp on much of my paper, including the invitations, table runners, guest book and even used it to stamp the photo frames that are going into our welcome bags.

I was in Hobby Lobby a couple of days ago and they had much of their stamping pieces on sale for 50% off.

They look SO cute! Great job. I’m using a custom stamp for the program covers, but I’ve been practicing and can still only get one decent stamp with each inking. (The 2nd and 3rd are OK, but some of the design gets cut off/faded. Any stamp-novice advice? Do you use a roller to ink the stamp? How do you clean it (for non-water-soluble ink)?

Baby wipes do a great job with cleaning stamps. For StazOn ink, which is much more permanent, I do the best I can, but if the ink stains the stamp a bit, I don’t mind.

Actually, I was stumped about the whole seating card debacle for a while, but your post just sealed the deal for me. Where did you find the tags?
Thanks for this post! :)

@GorgesViola: No roller, I just slid the stamp across the ink pad. And then I just cleaned the stamp with a wet paper towel
@Jennifer: baby wipes are a great idea!
@wintersprincess: Great! I’ve had a lot of brain farts in our whole planning process too. I bought the cards at Michaels. They came in packs of 20
@Lauren: I love the dandelion stamp too! And it went perfect with our invites. I bought the stamps and tags at Michaels

Those stamps you chose are beautiful. The tags are perfect…I’m sure you saved a tonne of time by not having to cut the cards yourselves.

Are you going to make use of the holes by hanging the seat cards up with pins?

We made a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in lieu of favours so we doubled used the tent cards that the Foundation provided (with a message about the donation) by printing guests names on the front of each card. We hand stamped the table number that each guest was seated at in a metallic green on the upper corner on the front of each card (above the guests’ names).

I made ribbon boards to hold the names using stretch canvas boards, stapling rows of black ribbon across the boards, hung the cards on the boards and set the boards on table-top picture/plate easels. I double-dutied the easels by using them to help display some picture boards (also stretch canvas) with pictures of my husband and I individually through our early years and as a couple - in place of a slide show.

Hi Miss Espresso — Quick question, did you hand write the names on the tags or did you use a printer? I heart this idea and am trying to figure out the little details!

Thanks!
