What Shape Are You In?

September 30th, 2008 @ 3:18 pm by Miss Fondue

When it comes to tables at the reception, we have three choices on shape. Round, square, or rectangular. I asked Mr. Fondue which he liked the best off the top of his head, and he said round. This is the most common, for sure. But I keep finding pictures of square and rectangular tables that I love.

We’re still waiting to hear from our venue about what our table options are (like, how many of each shape they have, their sizes, etc.) and then we have to price linens based on that, so this may all be a “moo” point (sorry, had to throw the Friends reference in). But I’m going to provide pictures anyway.

Check out this gorgeous square table for eight.

Here’s another gorgeous square set-up:

I like this, but it would pretty much eliminate all our plans for escort cards. ;) If we were to do rectangular tables, we’d have sections that seat 16 each (8 on each side of the table).

Something more like this (except this wedding had over 300 guests!):

And, of course, the classic round.

Or I suppose we could do a mixture of round and square, though I may be a little too OCD for this.

I also like the idea of something like this for the cake table, perhaps.

What table shapes are you having at your reception and why did you pick that particular shape?

We did a mix of squares (5 foot/sat 8) and rectangles (2 8 foot/sat 16) and I am the biggest fan! It is much less expected and I think makes conversation easier!

ooooh, rectangle! We only have round options at our venue.

if I had a choice, I would NOT do circle, just bc it is the most common, but sometimes it is easier for “knocking knees” I’ve heard…

I want square and/or rectangular tables. Round has been overdone. My ceremony/reception is very modern, so I like the idea of anything but round. I am also having square plates to continue that theme.

we had long rectangle tables. I wanted a warm and intimate atmosphere…as though everyone was sitting down to dinner together as opposed to being at a convention or something. I didn’t want people to be separated and feel removed. I wanted everyone to feel a part of one whole. I specifically chose my venue based on its ability to have a rectangle table and not a bunch of rounds.

I want long rectangular tables. It feels so much more family style, is easier to talk to more people at the table and the clean lines lok so nice. Also, I like the ability to put two together and make a longer table.

Plus with a double table I can put people who don’t get along at the same table but at different ends.

Our tables are oval! Has the look and feel of a round table, but we can fit more tables into the room :)

Our venue only has round (except for the long head table), but I’m loving the square ones! Long rectangular looks great, but if it’s not done right it feels a bit school diningroom-ish to me. But I would so choose square if I could!

Btw, I just noticed we have the same engagement date! Go Christmas 2007!

I love the look of the square tables because they make me think modern and hip. If we end up using a venue that requires us to bring in our own tables, I’d try to use square tables, but they’re so hard to find in the Detroit area :-\ . Everyone I ask seem to think I’m looking for a card table or that I want to put two rectangle tables together.

We’re doing round because that’s what our venue has for the room we booked, but if I had a choice it’d be square for 8. I think it just looks so darn cool.

It’s like a cows opinion. It doesn’t matter.

rectangle tables look so cool but they really kill conversation. every time i go out to dinner with a group of friends and we’re seated at a long table, we end up talking in groups of 3 or 4, instead of all together.

so if you do it for a wedding, you really have to worry about who is sitting next to whom to make sure everyone feels they are a part of the evening.
