Vendor Snafu

October 1st, 2008 @ 2:27 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

With 11 days to go, we are having our first major snafu. I can’t get into any of the details right now but there is a distinct possibility that Mr. Pinot Noir won’t be able to wear a kilt after all. The vendor has completely messed up the order (again) and they don’t expect the kilts to arrive from the weaver until Friday or Saturday. Then they have to ship them to us—which only leaves three days before we head to California. We were supposed to get them in the middle of August, but they completely messed up the colors on the first weave (imagine neon kilts!). Needless to say, they have not inspired much confidence in their ability to follow through. As you can imagine, Mr. PN is so angry, that he has steam coming out of his ears. There is nothing we can do at this point except wait. I feel so helpless—Mr. PN was so excited to wear his family kilt and now there is a very real possibility that it isn’t going to happen. I’ve offered to take him out for dinner and drinks to help distract him but I doubt it will help too much. To be continued…

Did you have any major wedding details or vendors flake out on the last minute? How did you cope?

Yikes! Will you even be able to get a suit for Mr. PN if the vendor isn’t able to deliver??

I’m sure you’ve already thought about this, but can you have them sent directly to california instead?

Due to some mess-ups by the manufacturer and our jeweler, we had trouble getting my husband’s ring before the wedding. The jeweler ended up having to fed-ex it to us where we were getting married, and it didn’t arrive until the day before the wedding. I was pretty frustrated, but as the wedding got closer, we just decided that if it didn’t show up on time, we’d borrow one of our dad’s rings for the ceremony. We were very happy though, when the right ring arrived. I’d have them overnight the kilt directly to you (wherever you are), and have a backup plan in case it doesn’t get there.

How about a back up plan of having a kilt (not the family colors) sent from someone locally or at least in this country???

We had our baker back out on us a month before the wedding, but we found another baker in time.

In order to cope take a deep breath and start working on Plan B.

There are several places, many in California, that you can rent kilts if the vendor falls through. I know it wouldn’t be the family colors, and that would be a huge bummer, but at least it’d be a kilt!

Those are the two that FI and I are looking at for our groomsmen. Good luck!

I don’t know Mr. PN’s family name so I couldn’t check to see if anyone had them instock or available for rent but here is a list of kilt vendors. Some are custom and some are off the rack. You also might want to call because there is a lady in Leeds, NY (Catskill Region) who hand makes them and you never know she may be willing to ruch it if sh has the plaid already.

I’d look into online rentals. There are a ton of them out there with every tartan imaginable. I’ll bet that even at this late date you should be able to find one that can help you. I understand that he wants to own one, but maybe a rental will bridge the gap until that can happen.

Best of luck!

Ugh. Our DJ backed out 3 weeks before the wedding. Luckily I have a good friend who is an awesome dj and it worked out SO much more for the better. I hope your situation works itself out. Try to stay calm and keep in mind the point of your efforts (much easier said than done:) Good suggestions about rentals and other options. Versatility will be your saving grace.

which tartan are you looking for? also did you want the modern kilt with the buckles or something a little less formal?

i work part time for a kilt company in virginia and although they probably can’t make you a modern kilt in your specific tartan (unless it’s a very popular tartan) in 11 days they may be able to help you out.

neon you say? does this happen to be a Mcleod or a Bucanan? those are pretty common and may be easy to find.

the contact info is on the website ask to speak to Virginia. she might be able to help. no promises though!

Thanks for all your great comments guys! The latest news from the company is that they expect the kilts to arrive on Friday or Saturday and will overnight them to Mr. PN’s office to arrive on Monday. We are hopeful but their poor performance history has us skeptical…

Mr. PN’s family tartan is Campbell. If we can’t get his kilt in time he will be wearing an off-the rack suit instead. We discussed the option of wearing a different tartan but that was a dealbreaker for him. I guess it would be kind of like using another couple’s monogram on your napkins - it just wouldn’t work. His example is like a yankee’s fan wearing a red sox cap as a substiute. He would rather just go without.

Thanks again guys! Your support and suggestions are truly appreciated!

Campbell is a very large and popular clan, their tartan is very easy to find and because it’s such a large and old clan there are many different Campbell Tartans to choose from. Modern Campbell is certainly not the only option. just something to keep in mind.
