About Mrs. Peacock

Two comments to preface this post. All photos by Dean Thorsen, all paper from the Paper Source. My two BFFs. This is a glimpse into all of our DIY goodies!Say hello to the winner of the “this shouldn’t take very long… and then it does” award. Our menus.

Sharing My Secrets, Vol. 2.1, The Paper : wedding diy stationery 0740
Sharing My Secrets, Vol. 2.1, The Paper : wedding diy stationery 0748I used to LOVE making fortune tellers when I was in grade school. We would write silly things like “You will marry Kermit the Frog” on the inside and giggle, while secretly wondering if it could be true. When I saw Darcy’s suggestion for a fun cocktail party game, I knew I had to have it. Chicago knottie katvon was also inspired and kindly sent me her template. My dad helped me use Visio to make it my own, as I couldn’t find an appropriate program on my Mac. The design ended up being pretty straightforward.

Folding 200 of them… not so much. I never thought I would say this, but I heart my bone folder. I could not have made it through without her. In the end, the menus were fabulous and our guests loved them. They also looked pretty cute on their napkins.

Next up, our programs.

Here was my inspiration, from the Bride’s Cafe.

And here are ours. Please pretend that there are pretty, swooshy last names instead of big white blocks.

This was truly a team effort. I wrote the program and laid out the format in PowerPoint. Mr. Peacock messed it up when he tried to re-do it in Word, and then he and my dad recreated it in PowerPoint, printed, cut and folded them (with the bone folder!). My mom sewed them closed. I lurved them so!

This post got a little too long, so look out for round two- escort cards, table numbers and a few other little goodies.

I’ve never seen a fortune teller menu before - very cool! Love how your programs turned out, and how fun to finally learn what quote you chose - perfect. Three cheers for the bone folder! Who would think that such a simple tool could be so useful?!

How exactly do the menus work? I guess to be more clear, what I’m wondering is, what did you print on each section?!

I was also wondering how you printed each section so that the menu made sense. Such a brilliant idea! Would you be willing to post up a template?

My fiance proposed to me with a fortune game! I’m planning on making some as our place cards for the wedding. I have about 400 guest, so I should probably get crackin’ =)

Do you think you can post the template you used?

I am so glad you all loved them! I am going to try and put the file within my next post. As soon as I find it…

This might not make sense if you have never seen a fortune teller before, but here is how it worked. Each internal flap would expose a part of the menu. When you lifted “late night,” you would see a list of the late night snacks. It was pretty straightforward.

Those fortune cookies are a fantastic idea, and look fantastic on the dinner plates as well! I’m going to file that idea away for future planning…

While I love the menus as well, I am totally crushing on those programs! I come from a family of quilters and have been looking for a way to get my grandmother involved with some DIY. The simple sewing on the binding is perfect!

Love, love, love the fortune teller menus. I loved making those when I was a kid! lol. And your hand-stitched menus are too pretty for words. :)

PS I’m an Apple geek too - OmniGraffle is great for diagramming on the Mac. :)
