About Mrs. Ballet Flat

Make a Wedding Website!

October 2nd, 2008 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Ballet Flat

Of course, with the standard wedding, you have the invitations and possibly even Save the Dates to send out to your attendees via snail mail. However, with everything being digital and most of us using the Internet in our everyday lives, a wedding website is an excellent way to share information instantly!

When our planning really got started, Mr. Ballet Flat and I agreed that we definitely needed a wedding website. We are computer geeks by profession, and know how wonderful of a resource the Internet is. So, I shopped around the web for possible wedding website hosts.

Here are the websites we looked into using…

The Knot

Cost: free
Cool features:

  • 40 designs to choose from
  • Can include information like how you met, ceremony/reception details, the wedding party, registry information, etc.

Cons:

  • You don’t get to choose your own www address
  • Designs aren’t very customizable

eWedding

Cost: from free to $14.95/month
Cool features:

  • You can choose from many templates
  • You can include details about your wedding on the website

Cons:

  • Your website is only free for one year
  • You have to pay to get the www domain of your choice
  • You can’t include details like directions, online RSVP, etc. on the free website
  • To get your site ad free, you have to pay as well

My Wedding

Cost: free
Cool features:

  • There are many templates available
  • Wedding Paper Divas, Minted and Papeterie makes the templates, so you could match your invites (through them) to your website on My Wedding
  •  You can keep a wedding blog through this account, have online RSVP, keep a guestbook, etc.

Cons:

  • You don’t get to choose your own www domain name

Wedding Channel

Cost: Free
Cool Features:

  • You can choose from many templates
  • You can put in details about your wedding, wedding party, etc.

Cons:

  • You can’t choose your domain name
  • The templates, in my opinion, aren’t as impressive as the other sites I’ve mentioned

Wedding Tracker
Cost: $60 per year, or $29.99 per year for Wedding Channel members using the promo code WC50
Cool features:

  • Not only can you make a website, you can use their planning software which includes online rsvp, gift tracker, seating charts, etc
  • You can have a domain name, but it’s only kept to your actual names, like www.amyandjoey.com

Cons:

  • The website itself gave me a lot of errors when I was trying to edit and create a website during my trial period

WedORama

Cost: $70 per year, or $34.99 per year for Wedding Channel members with promo code WCNW
Cool features:

  • Complete control over a www domain name
  • Can completely choose your colors in your theme
  • You can have up to 18 sections/pages on your site
  • You can edit your pictures that you post on there through the site
  • Fun quizzes/polls to put in, online RSVP, and other fun features

Cons:

  • It’s a flash site, so it takes a while to load for guests.

Ultimately, we ended up going with WedORama. We wanted a special domain name, and I was able to fully choose the teal and brown theme in the website. It’s ok if it’s a little slow of a site… it plays music while it’s loading! :)

Are you making a wedding website? If so, which host did you/would you choose?

We used the Wedding Channel website and it worked perfectly for us. (Our wedding theme was roses, so that template was fine!) We were able to relay all the information guests needed and they could RSVP. We also were able to choose a domain name with our names on it that wasn’t too difficult to remember. For a free site, it was A-OK in my book!

I used mywedding. I didn’t mind not having a specific domain name, I thought the specialized after mywedding was just fine.

I really like how easy it was to put together1 Although I don’t think many of our guests have checked it out.

I chose WedORama too.. I liked the Flash design and the password protection to get into the site. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to use the online RSVP system though.

oooh, thanks for posting such a comprehensive review! Mr. Taffy and I are just starting to think about our website and weren’t sure where to start. I’ll show your entry to him later! :)

I used googlepages - that way you can design the whole thing yourself.

I used iWeb and built my own. I tried mywedding.com and ewedding, but they were confusing.

Oh and for RSVPs I used Wufoo which is brilliant!

weddingwire.com all the way!! A fabulous service - the RSVP section is the best, truly, if you are doing most of your RSVP’s online because they create a spreadsheet for you that you can modify.

We bought a domain name and built ours on iWeb. It probably took longer that way but we got to make it exactly how we wanted.

I didn’t have a wedding website - other than the one macys offered with our registry. I think about 4 people looked at it, so I’m not too sure it was worth the effort. :)

I used weddingsolutions.com which was user friendly enough for my liking. I didn’t really research the sites before I decided to go with them. I got an offer through a Wedding Organizer I had purchased at B&N. No complaints, no domain name, but thats okay :)

We used http://www.wedquarters.com…It was $30 for the year and had been perfect. We used it for RSVP’s as well and their systme is simple for your guests and is very organized on your end. You can upload pictures using your facebook account (which we did for the “about us” page) and they have six pages of layouts each with at least three, but usually more, color picks. I highly reccommed!!!

This is such a helpful and well organized post! After trying a lot of these sites, we ended up with wedding window, which has been great so far.

We ended up going with Momentville.com because even as a free site you can adjust EVERYTHING and there are no adds. We did end up upgrading (1 time $15 fee) so that guests could RSVP privately online. I am very pleased with them.

I used http://www.weddingwindow.com. It was a bit pricey when compared to the others, but I liked the layouts that they had for mountain weddings best:)

We added a domain to the multitude of other sites we have (mainly for pictures and family stuff), installed Drupal, grabbed a pretty template, and added content! It was actually pretty simple and easy.

We are building our own site online. However when I was researching I really liked http://www.weddingwindow.com/ as ErinMarieMack mentioned above. The layouts and features are really great and there is a big range.

I would highly recommend http://www.getmarried.com/ as a wedding webpage site. My best friend used it for her wedding and she was truly impressed with everything that had to offer. Tons of great features and it was FREE!

http://www.weddingwire.com is amazing! So many outstanding features and tools, you some say in your domain name, and can customize it almost as much as the ones you pay for only it FREE! :)

We used http://www.weddingannouncer.com. We wanted to do e-RSVPs and this allowed us to do it for free.

We also used http://www.weddingwindow.com to create our website. It was very user friendly and there were so many templates to choose from. There are also multiple layers of password protection if you’re worried about strangers (or exes with axes to grind) seeing your info. I highly recommend it.

I love the templates on mywedding, so we’ll be going with them, I don’t mind not having a personalized domain. :)

I highly recommend wedshare.com… They were a bit pricey (~$120 for 18 months with personalized domain name), but their templates and features were excellent!

We used weddingtracker.com, and while I don’t know the promo off the top of my head, I got a discount from the knot as well.
The big reason I used them, you can have multiple log ins to your extra features. My mom and FMIL both have their own log ins, and can only edit their own guest sections, not mess with mine, or accidentally mess things up on the website.
Its might sound silly but it has made my life a lot easier!

I used Wordpress! Free and easy… and NEVER expires! It’s usually a blog platform but works well for wedding sites with pages, too.

WeddingWindow all the way! Could not be happier with my site or their service. I tried building my own and was taking me months. I was up and running in a day with them, and I get a ton of compliments on it!

Hey Miss BF!
I want to blog about my wedding website but wanted to know how you got those snapshots of web pages. Do you need a program to do this?? I tried right clicking but haven’t found any viable options??

Thanks in advance!

xoxo

@Miss Blush: Hey Miss Blush! All I did was the print screen command for each website and crop the pictures from there to exclude my toolbars, etc.! :)
