At the Bar, Part 2: A Perfect Match

October 3rd, 2008 @ 10:27 am by Ms Fondue

Previously: Coasters

One cute little touch that I was considering for a DIY project was matchboxes. I really wanted black matchboxes that I could stamp our monogram with white ink, or white matchboxes to stamp with black ink. I scoured the web, but there wasn’t much I could find for less than 50 cents a box. And that was just the supplies, not including the hours I would spend stamping the things.

Then I came across the Etsy seller LSeabol. She does stuff like monogrammed aisle runners and banners. She also does matchboxes… for 50 cents a box.

Hmm, I thought. Spend the same amount and have a DIY project, or outsource? Outsourcing won, of course. I still haven’t finished our coasters. Or our invitations. And especially not the table runners.

So, I was happy when the mailman delivered these:

There are three different ribbon designs, as you can see.

And inside each is 20 matches.

We have 100 boxes that will be at the bar, if anyone wants one as a favor.

Did you decide to outsource any of your planned DIY projects?

@Carolyn: I don’t think that having cute match boxes makes Miss Fondue and advocate of smoking. I don’t smoke & hate the habit, but I have plenty of match boxes at home :) Like MrsW remarked, candles, etc…

Can I ask Miss Fondue is it a sticker or actual paper the label and how would you say the quality is? Really cute from the look of the picture. I am thinking of contacting her.

I think it’s a great idea - I collect matchboxes but don’t smoke either.

@Carolyn: I am definitely not advocating smoking (although Mr. Fondue does smoke, so I’m sure he’ll be using a lot of the leftovers). Everyone I have shown them to that said they really wanted to have one is a nonsmoker. A lot of people collect them.

@pinklau325: They basically are constructed as follows: Two pieces of black cardstock were cut and glued to either side of the matchbox. Then a ribbon was wrapped around and a sticker label with our monogram, names, and date was affixed to it to hold the ribbon in place. They are pretty good quality; the monogram is a little fuzzier than I would like, but that may be due to the file I sent her. But overall, I was very pleased with them, especially considering it would have cost me more time and money to do them myself.

Such a cute idea and LSeabol did a great job! I love the different ribbons. I think this is definitely something your guess will take home, I for one like to have interesting matchboxes for my candles and such :)

This looks really cute! I want one!

I’m just wondering, would the ribbon get in the way of striking the match with the sandpaper bit?

we are doing something like this (thanks to a photo of a favor off martha stewart’s), except that it’s gonna be pasted on mint tins :) I love the effect on your match boxes!
