Rain, Rain, Get the H*ll Out of Napa

October 3rd, 2008 @ 4:25 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

I’ve been checking the weather forecast for the wedding since the 15 day outlook started on http://www.accuweather.com/. Now that we are under 10, days I’m also including http://www.weather.com/ in my rotation. Today, weather.com has given us bad news:

Luckily, the accuweather.com forecast still says sun…

Our ceremony is outside and we really don’t have a back up plan because the chances of rain in the Napa Valley in October are about zilch. The technical back up plan is to get married inside in the “Cedar Room.” This is a tiny room with a fireplace and lounges. There would be no chairs and no view. I know we can’t control this—regardless of the weather, I will still be happy to marry Mr. PN, but in all honesty—I’m totally freaking out.

When I told Mr. PN, he told me that I shouldn’t have been looking at the weather to begin with—it would only have freaked me out. Well, it is too late for that now…

What is your “in case of rain” plan?

Miss Pinot Noir, if I were you I would put more faith in the accuracy of the Accu Weather forecast. I may be biased (I used to work for Accu Weather), but I have successfully converted many former weather.com fans to accuweather.com. They did not change their habits to be nice to me - they changed because they noticed that Accu Weather routinely produces more accurate forecasts.

I hope this soothes your nerves a little bit, and I really hope that you have beautiful weather on your big day!

Good luck and I hope that your next week isn’t too chaotic :)

hi miss pinot noir! i had my wedding reception there and the cedar room was super cute! of course the terrace would be a gorgeous ceremony location with a beautiful view but the cedar room is a great backup plan. the room is just right for a lovely and intimate ceremony.

good luck!

the news here has been saying that the rain should be over by noon…hopefully that’s true since it sounds like you’re having an evening ceremony right? i hope you won’t have to go to plan b!

All my stuff is inside! There is no predicting weather in MN in May (which I’m sure you know)! It could anywhere from 80 and sunny to below zero and showing. I’d prefer 70 and sunny! :)

If Cali weather is anything like Texas weather, you’ll be fine…it’ll blow over before you know it! xoxo!!

My plan was to move everyone into the historical building. We would have been squished.

Knowing how the weather is right now and from past experience it will maybe a sprinkle, but not a lot. It really blows over quick in Oct over here. It might be a little cold but it may not seem cold to your standards.

I obsessively checked the weather forecast leading up to my wedding in Seattle last week :)

Weather.com consistely showed rain in the days leading up to my wedding, but I found the local weather station’s website had more detailed forecast information and projected the rain to clear by early Friday…well, the local weather guy was right and I enjoyed a clear, sunny, and warm wedding all day Saturday!

Ditch weather.com and go check out the website for your local weather guy for more comprehensive and accurate info!

We’re getting married the same weekend in Charleston, Sc. This weekend is sunny 75 degrees perfect weather and it hasn’t rained in a week. Weather.com is totally freaking me out because it predicts t-storms for us next weekend as well! With my luck this will be the only rainy weekend in October in Charleston. We have an outdoor ceremony and outdoor cocktail hour planned in this lovely garden. If it rains we’ll have to move onto the veranda, and it would just break my heart. I hope accuweather is right.

hahah, I did the exact same thing before our wedding! I started looking at it 10 days out and it kept switching between partly cloudy and few showers (chance of precipitation = 30-40% each time). In the end it was a gorgeous day and we got to have it outside as I had planned and dreamed of! So no worries, I’m sure it will be wonderful!

Have you thought about umbrellas as a plan b? i bought cheapo umbrellas from the dollar store and had them in a basket for our guests, “in case.” Rain happened, but it was an on-off kind of sprinkling rain, and people just used the umbrellas when we needed them. It was a lovely day — cooler than expected; beautiful, dramatic skies that made for amazing lighting for photographs, and something to remember the day by. The umbrellas added visual interest to the photographs, too.

We also got a bunch of dollar store umbrellas. If there’s such a thing as buying peace of mind, this was it. And as it turned out, the 80% chance of rain predicted four days out became 20% by the day before, and the day itself was gorgeous.
