Clay Flower Completion

October 6th, 2008 @ 1:33 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Diane worked like mad all week to finish the clay flowers for our wedding. Over the weekend she sent me many photos of the final products. They should arrive on my front step by Wednesday!
In addition to being an amazing flower sculptor, her photos are absolutely top notch. She said that while working on this order she really felt like a florist with the vases and vases full of flowers throughout her home.

Here is my beautiful bridal bouquet! It’s so lush and fluffy and pretty! I cannot believe all the detail in every flower. Each of the tuberoses has 21 petals, the ranunculus have 20-25 petals, the roses have 20-25 and the peony\ies have 25-30. Plus she made 112 clay stems and all of those stephanotis flowers. Multiply all those petals by 6 bouquets and 12 boutonnieres/corsages and you have a lot of sculpting to do.

All of the bridesmaids’ bouquets are slightly different. Since the girls will all be wearing different little black dresses, I thought it would be fun to keep their bouquets from being identical as well, and Diane agreed.
Here is a photo of Mr. Pineapple’s bout. It is going to look great with his copper tie.
Like the girls, the boys will all be wearing different gray suits. They will vary from light gray to very dark gray. We purchased their ties, all in the same cooper and champagne color pallette, but with different patterns. So, in keeping with the variation all the bouts and corsages are also different.

Many of you have asked about Diane’s pricing. Like fresh flowers, the price of a clay bouquet really depends on the type of flowers you would like. (The only difference is with clay you can have peonies in October and they will never ever die.) Her bridal bouquets range from $175-$400. Bridesmaids bouquets range from $65-$200.

Is anyone else having a fresh flower alternative for their bouquet?

They are beautiful. I’m wondering about the weight and smell…are they heavier than normal and do they have a plasitic smell ?

They are absolutely gorgeous!! So beautiful and they look so real!!

Jennred782 beat me to my question — they are beautiful but what in the world will you do with them after the wedding? I can see saving yours but do you expect all the bridesmaids to keep theirs?

those look amazing!! It is great that you can keep them too. I was so sad to leave all of my beautiful centerpieces and watch my bouquet wilt. I can’t wait to see your flowers in action.

Who doesn’t love having flowers around the house? If I were a bridesmaid I would keep mine and set them out in a vase like fresh flowers! What a fun home accent and beautiful keepsake all in one!

The flowers are no heavier than real flowers and there is essentially no smell. It’s pretty odorless unless you add oils to scent them.

As for what you would do with them afterwards. As you can see from some of the photos, I put the bouquets in white square tall vases and they work perfectly because it looks like a bouquet of flowers in a nice vase! Instant centerpiece or floral arrangement great for any room in your house!

After the wedding I will do just as Diane suggested above. I am going to put them in a vase and then on the desk in my studio. I essentially stay in the same room all day everyday so they will be a great addition.

I don’t know what my bridesmaids will do with them, but I assume they will keep them around as decoration. If they don’t want them I would gladly take them for myself or my mother. :)

A few readers said they would like to have their wedding day bouquets replicated out of clay. I think that is a great idea, maybe for a first anniversary gift.

@Mrs. Onion: I told Diane my fresh flower budget and she hit it almost exactly. I went over $50 or so, but it is worth it to have them forever (and for the wow factor). Plus I knew what they would look like months ago and got to have any flowers in any color I wanted. Even if mother nature would have objected.

I’m waiting to hear back from Diane myself, and I’m incredibly excited about my clay flowers.

I think we’re just doing my bouquet and FI’s boutonerre and then DIYing the rest of the flowers with real flowers. But I love the ability to do whatever you want, even flowers that don’t exist but you wish they did.

If the “clay flower” fall, will it break? ‘Coz when I think of clay, I automatically associate with plant pots which will break if you drop it.

@alaud41:
They aren’t as fragile as you think. Obviously you would want to use care as you would a fresh flower bouquet. You wouldn’t want to use it as a toss bouquet. However, light bumping of the flowers during hugging or pressure it will be fine. This is not pottery clay … it’s an air-dry clay that is quite durable and light when it dries allowing the flowers to take on a realistic look. Hope that helps to answer your question.

Wow! Your flowers are beautiful. I’ve been thinking about peonies but know they would be expensif in the fall, this might do the trick. Pineapple I don’t know how I missed this post a couple of days ago, but do remember you talking about how you were going to have clay flowers. These are amazing. Now I have to dig out my clay…
