Real Wedding: Burlington, Vermont

October 6th, 2008 @ 3:30 pm by Mrs. Champagne

This summer I was honored to be a guest at a wedding in Burlington, Vermont for my close friends Julie and Brian. They’ve dated since high school, and they’re both very active nature lovers, so I knew their Burlington wedding would reflect their personalities.

It was a beautiful and romantic day wedding near the beach of Lake Champlain. When we walked up to the wedding site, there were sunbathers on the beach! Very laid back, and very “Julie and Brian”.

The aisle was decorated with stripped beach wood, and the couple shared the day with close to 80 guests.

The bride wore an ivory dress with flowers of all colors… very pretty

The vows were written for each other, but were the same for both bride and groom. So sweet, and I wish I could remember them!

First kiss as husband and wife!

The reception was a cocktail style reception at a restaurant called “Splash at the Boathouse” on the water. Our party was upstairs, and there were people boating and walking around the pier… we were so lucky to have beautiful weather!!

The bride changed from a veil into a beautiful silk flower! I loved it, and I’m actually going to do the same. Instead of the champagne toast, Julie and Brian chose to toast with a locally brewed beer. Julie used permanent markers to draw a mountain scene on the beer glasses, and guests were encouraged to keep the glasses as a reminder of the day.

I’m caught crying…I always cry at weddings!!!

At the end of the night.. it was a picture perfect wedding on the water. Congrats Julie and Brian!

Has anyone had a cocktail style reception? We were fine, but we also ate dinner in between the ceremony and reception.

I had a cocktail reception and no guests complained. I had worded it on the invitation so guests knew to grab a bite to eat beforehand. It turned out great!

@tammi: haha! you saw the tear! I’m such a sap:)
@Mrs. Onion: I think this wedding was earlier in the summer, but wouldn’t that have been fun- we could have crossed paths!
@anniechenvln: Aren’t they the PERFECT couple?! I love them together.

A friend from college had a cocktail reception, and it was great: they had a very traditional wedding cake, a bajillion fruit kabobs, and a bunch of great, funny speeches. Then they headed off to a secluded B&B, and the guests kind of divided ourselves up into natural groupings and went out to dinner.
