Fitting in with the French

October 7th, 2008 @ 1:48 pm by Mrs. Candy Corn

Mr. Candy Corn’s stepfather is from France (Mr. CC lived there for quite some time and is fluent in French as well), which has resulted in us having nearly a dozen French guests who will be attending our wedding. Some know a great deal of English, some don’t speak any, so I wanted them to feel included by inserting some French-lovin’ here and there. The above is one of the cake signs I made, with an illustration I did of an Ann Wood cake topper, since our cake topper is handmade by Ann.

Our cake flavors will be: toasted almond with apricot jam, chocolate chip cake, and berries & cream. Mmmmm, I’m hoping we can have a little of each.

I realize the font is illegible in this photo, but the menu on the right is in French and will be on display at the French-speaking tables, while the one on the left is in English.

Another glimpse at the French menu.

This is our bird cage cardholder, with a sign I made that was heavily inspired by Miss Cookie’s. I drew the illustration of the little birdies to add some pizazz.

A close-up shot of the bird cage sign.

Are any of you having guests come in from across the globe?  If so, how are you making them feel at home?

Hate me because you already have this printed out obviously but it’s Amandes grillees. not tostees. Unless they are from Quebec in which case I’m not as familiar with it.
The rest isn’t as shocking.

My whole family is French and so am I. Only a handful of them can make it to the wedding because of that. My plan is to translate the ceremony in French and have a special program for them. Have little tags of what’s in each dish on the buffet table in both languages.
We’re also doing multicultural favors: My hubby’s mom is from Hawaii and she sent us a bunch of wrapped Macadamia nuts, I’m getting Jordan Almonds (Dragees) from my dad.
I want to use a song that is the symbol of the region I’m from in France for the father/daughter dance and I’m trying to get my hubby to learn French (not much luck with that one sadly).

You creative little thing! Adorable! I am drooling over the menus!

Your bird cage cardholder turned out sooooo much better than mine. I put it together very, very last minute!

Great ideas! We have friends traveling from China but they are originally from the states. We also have a couple guests who are from Brazil but now live in the US.

Miss Candy Corn, you wouldn’t want to sell your birdcage after your wedding, would ya? I am collecting antique/decorative bird cages to use as centerpieces at my Dec 09 wedding. I have 5 so far, but garage sale season is almost over! Let me know! jdp058 at mix dot wvu dot edu

I feel a little silly, but how do the cards get into the cage? I love the look of birdcages, but I’m confused by this!

Awesome work Miss CC! My future hubby is French (we both lived there for awhile) and half the guest list is coming across the Atlantic. So I’m trucking along translating our entire wedding Web site and all of our documents into French. I’m sure your guests will appreciate your efforts!
