Mrs. Ballet Flat, New Orleans Age and Occupation: 24, Geographic Information Systems Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, IT Analyst Engagement Date: March 16, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Blogging Since: September 25, 2008 Venue: St. Charles Borromeo Church/Jefferson-Orleans North About Me: I absolutely love wedding planning, spending time with Mr. Ballet Flat, various crafts, watching football, baking, pop music, bargain hunting and ice cream. My idea of a great date night is dinner and clearance shopping with Mr. Ballet Flat! I currently live below sea level in the suburbs near New Orleans, where I make maps all day, everyday for my job. I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with anything New Orleans related for our wedding, and I can't wait for the big day!
About Mrs. Ballet Flat

Hi, I’m Miss Ballet Flat, and I’m a tall girl. How tall, you probably wonder? Well, let’s just say my fiance and I have another thing in common…we are both 5′11″. *Crickets chirp*

I would feel really awkward being taller than my fiance on our wedding day. So, I’ve enlisted the help of some great shoes that would suit Mr. Ballet Flat well in this situation…

OK, OK. I’m only kidding! So, what’s a girl to do? Well, I guess I have to keep my height the same here. No high heels for this bride!

I’ve been exploring my options for flat shoes or even super low-heeled shoes. I’d love a low heel so I could still have that sexy feel. (I love how fabulous a COMFORTABLE pair of heels makes me feel!) Thanks to a few websites, my fashion gears are starting to turn! Wahoo!

Check out these beauties…

Of course, if these low heels don’t quite feel right for me, here are some flats I’ve been eyeing. :)

Are you and your fiance the same height, or are you taller than your fiance?  If so, what kind of shoes will you be wearing?

My fiance and I are almost exactly the same height, which means we tower over his parents and sister, who are all close to 5′2″. The fact that heels would make me taller than my FI didn’t really have an impact on my wedding day shoe decision. I made sure he had no problem with me being taller than him on the day if I found heels I liked, and I received his blessing to wear whatever I’d like. Do you ever wear heels with your FI? I know a lot of girls don’t feel comfortable being taller than their signficant other, but I think it’s time everyone became more comfortable with the idea - height shouldn’t matter!

Miss Ballet Flat,

I, too have the same problem. My fiance is only 1.5 inches taller than me and as much as I’d love to wear heels; it might make for an awkward pic moment.

Anyone else agree?

Although,I did find this: http://www.walktallshoes.com/

Anyone ever try it?!?!

I like the first (girls) pair!
That being said, I’ve been to two weddings where she was taller than he… and no one cared. He let his concern be known to the photog, so all the photos are angled not to accentuate height difference. But everyone who’s there (hopefully) already knows you and wont think twice about your height.

He’s only a smidge taller than I am, so I am wearing…..BALLET FLATS! As should you! Plus they’re comfy.

I feel your pain. I have always been a big fan of the 2-4 ” heels, but my fiance is just 1″ taller than me, so i have been searching for those magicaaly sexy (but still low ) heels too.

I am 5′10 with no shoes on. The boy is a mere 5′6. It makes us ‘us’.

My husband and I are the same height and I was actually HAPPY I had an excuse to wear flats on my wedding day! I chose these shoes (see link) by Seigerson Morrison.

[Unfortunately, I think a pair of 4-inch stilettos would have been more comfortable! Even after days of breaking in the shoes and excessive band-aid prevention measures, my heels were wrecked by the end of the night.]

I am just slightly shorter than my DH. I went through multiple pairs of flat shoes (ballet flats, flip flops, etc.) but wasn’t really liking any of them. (Some of them didn’t like me, either! Boo on wide feet!). Until about a month before our wedding I was looking for shoes for my mum with her and lo and behold were the cutest patent leather red peep-toe flat sandal complete with rose on top. My mum even bought the pair in white! (We both have wide, high arched short feet, so to find a pair of (CUTE!) shoes that fit was amazing!)

Unfortunately, these shoes are from a Canadian shoe store called Arnold Churgin and only sells shoes in my city. But they do have very pretty, high quality shoes!: http://www.arnoldchurgin.com/

I hear you - I’m 5′11″ as well, and my FH is only about an inch taller. I’m planning to wear ballet slippers for the big day — not flats, mind you, but the super-comfy, decidedly adorable slippers of amateur ballerinas everywhere. Best of luck with your shoe search!

My fiance is only a bit taller than me. I ordered many low heeled shoes and the one that was the most comfy and prettiest was the first picture you posted. I got a different version, but they are super comfy!

I wore “almost” flats. I rarely ever wear heeled shoes, but these were much better than ballet flats or kitten heels.
And I’m pretty sure Mr. Lemon got the tallest shoes at Men’s Warehouse. :)

I am also toying with the ballet slipper idea. Being taller than my fellow on my wedding day would make me feel big (a total self conciousness issue on my partof course). On the other hand, the fellow in his amazigness has also offered to wear lsubtle lifts if I find a wonderful heeled shoe. Awww….

My husband and I are the same height, so I had this same problem for our wedding day. I ended up going with a pair of slippers for our wedding. Think the kind that people some time wear around their houses at night. Were they the most attractive thing? Not a chance! But I didn’t end up being taller than him AND they were so comfortable that I wore them all night and still wear them on occasion!

I’m so happy to see this post! I want to wear flats for my wedding and I’ve been having a terrible time finding cute and comfortable flats. Its seems like there’s hope for me yet!

I’m 5′10″, about half an inch taller than my fiance without shoes on, and adore four inch stilettos, so I’m used to being the taller one in the relationship. The reason I’m looking for flats is because my mother (wonderfuly, lovely woman that she is) is worried that the pictures won’t look good if I’m super tall. We have differing opinions on a lot of things so I gave in on this one–especially because flats will be super comfy and much easier to dance in after being on my feet for hours.

Good luck with the rest of your shoe search!

i have the exact opposite problem! i’m only 5′2″ and my guy is 6′3″…so even with super high heels the pics may turn out weird. and we look strange dancing together bc i’m barley up to his shoulders!

I think it’d be perfect for you to wear ballet flats, Miss! A little Weddingbee tribute, yes?

A side note:
My sister’s 5′11- she’s 17 and never gets to wear high heels to her high school dances because she’s taller than everyone.
Thankfully, FI’s brother is 6′4! Needless to say, they are walking down the aisle together as bridesmaid and groomsman and my sister is STOKED to wear heels! :]

heh, I wore heels and Mr Corn wore his regular tux shoes…and I was taller than him (since we are both 5′11″ as well). But it didn’t matter.

I’m BARELY shorter, and I’m wearing Biviel shoes from piperlime that have 1.5 inch heels…sounds higher than they are, considering he won’t be barefoot! Also, I’m a tiny bit shorter than you, and these are perfect for me with my La Sposa by Pronovias dress…no hemming or add’l length required! If you have to pay for both, it really starts to add up!

Girl, own your height!

My sister is at least 6′ at 18, and she can only get taller from there (and knowing our family, she probably will!). She has always stressed about whether or not to wear heels to the formal dances at her high school, and most of the time her footwear choices come down to how tall her date is. But you know what? She always, without exception, looks completely fierce when she goes for the 4″ heels, even if she is taller than her date, because she feels more confident displaying her height as an asset.

My mom stands a few inches taller than my dad (her 5′11″ vs. his 5′9″), and their wedding photos are absolutely beautiful because she didn’t try to disguise the height discrepancy. It’s one of the things I’ve always admired about them as a couple, that my mother always wore heels despite their respective heights when they went formal.

If you feel more comfortable wearing flats or kitten heels, then by all means, wear flats or kitten heels. But please, for the sake of tall girls everywhere (and us average girls who date shorter men!), don’t make the decision to wear flats simply because you’re nervous that you’ll make your fiance uncomfortable. He loves you and your height, or he wouldn’t be marrying you.

It’s your day to be sexy! Own it, own it, own it!
