For the past few weeks, Mr. Taffy and I have been searching for the perfect location for our engagement photos. We were looking for an outdoor location, preferably an apple orchard (suggested by our amazing photographer).
We found some bee-autiful photo opportunities at Plymouth Orchards, but it wasn’t “the place” for our engagement shoot.
Wiard’s, the first orchard that we visited, was extremely developed- no open spaces, no chances to roam around the apple trees. There were carnival games, haunted houses, kid’s karaoke and a cider store. Not exactly what we were looking for, although we did take home cider & doughnuts.
We were put off by Wiard’s, we scouted some “non orchard” outdoor locations, including the U of M botanical gardens (a super popular wedding location) and Nichol’s Arboretum, otherwise known as “the arb”. These locations share the same website. While beautiful, they just didn’t have the same feel that an orchard would have. We were originally planning on getting married in the Fall, and I loved that we could have some Fall-ish pictures with our engagement shoot.
I sent a worried email to our photographer, and she sent me a website with all kinds of orchard listings for Michigan. (Thanks Melissa, you are awesome!) Mr. Taffy and I went to work, picking two orchards after doing some online research from the listings.
Our first spot was Plymouth Orchards. They had a cute petting farm and fun photo opportunities, but there weren’t any open areas, so we kept moving. But first, a cute picture of Mr. Taffy before we continued our search:
Next stop was Alber Ochard in Manchester, Michigan. It was perfect!
We loved the open space, and the trees were so cute!
Some of the apples were so red.

Mr. Taffy thought that the hanging apples looked like Christmas ornaments.

Searching for good locations is hard work!

There were some really cute barns in addition to the beautiful orchard.

And a cute baby donkey who was very fond of Mr. Taffy!

I love the blue on the wall behind these crates!

We are so excited and really think this is the perfect spot for us. The cider was amazing, the best we have had during our search. Yum!

The most wonderful part of the hunt was spending time with Mr. Taffy. It was so lovely to be outside, and we had a great time running around.
We took some delicious apples home. I think it’s time for an apple snack in the near future. mmm…

We will also be going to a secret second location, but I am not telling until after the shoot!
Did you have to search far and wide for a good photo location?
