About Mrs. Taffy

For the past few weeks, Mr. Taffy and I have been searching for the perfect location for our engagement photos. We were looking for an outdoor location, preferably an apple orchard (suggested by our amazing photographer).

We found some bee-autiful photo opportunities at Plymouth Orchards, but it wasn’t “the place” for our engagement shoot.

I’m such a dork. :)

Wiard’s, the first orchard that we visited, was extremely developed- no open spaces, no chances to roam around the apple trees. There were carnival games, haunted houses, kid’s karaoke and a cider store. Not exactly what we were looking for, although we did take home cider & doughnuts. ;)

We were put off by Wiard’s, we scouted some “non orchard” outdoor locations, including the U of M botanical gardens (a super popular wedding location) and Nichol’s Arboretum, otherwise known as “the arb”. These locations share the same website. While beautiful, they just didn’t have the same feel that an orchard would have. We were originally planning on getting married in the Fall, and I loved that we could have some Fall-ish pictures with our engagement shoot.

I sent a worried email to our photographer, and she sent me a website with all kinds of orchard listings for Michigan. (Thanks Melissa, you are awesome!) Mr. Taffy and I went to work, picking two orchards after doing some online research from the listings.

Our first spot was Plymouth Orchards. They had a cute petting farm and fun photo opportunities, but there weren’t any open areas, so we kept moving. But first, a cute picture of Mr. Taffy before we continued our search:

I love Fall!

Next stop was Alber Ochard in Manchester, Michigan. It was perfect!

We loved the open space, and the trees were so cute!taf7.jpg
Some of the apples were so red.

Mr. Taffy thought that the hanging apples looked like Christmas ornaments.

Searching for good locations is hard work! ;)

There were some really cute barns in addition to the beautiful orchard.

And a cute baby donkey who was very fond of Mr. Taffy!

I love the blue on the wall behind these crates!

We are so excited and really think this is the perfect spot for us. The cider was amazing, the best we have had during our search. Yum!

The most wonderful part of the hunt was spending time with Mr. Taffy. It was so lovely to be outside, and we had a great time running around. :)

We took some delicious apples home. I think it’s time for an apple snack in the near future. mmm…

We will also be going to a secret second location, but I am not telling until after the shoot!

Did you have to search far and wide for a good photo location?

I am so jealous of your engagement shoot location! I live in Southern California and the most popular place to shoot here is the beach, but FH and I are not beachy ppl… we need to move.

Nice attention to detil, as that blue wall is going to be just fantastic. Your photos will have such a nice hometown feel to them, which is a nice departure from the urban look that is so popular right now. I want apple cider!

I love this idea! Your photos are going to feel so “fall” and with the red barns, green grass and blue wall, you’ll have such variety! Good job :)

My fiance and I did the same thing when looking for engagement photo locations! We knew which park we wanted to use, but it was so large, that we wanted to scout out the best spots ahead of time so as to not waste precious time with our photographer later! Our photographer appreciated our research, and like you said, walking through the park with my honey on a beautiful day turned out to be one of my favorite wedding planning memories!

The orchard you chose is beautiful - the perfect place for fall photos! Can’t wait to see your pictures :)

Did someone say cider? That sounds so good right now. Those really will make great backdrops for pictures. And look- You’re a BEE! HaHa.

I love Alber Orchard! Not so much Wiard’s though- totally commercial and no fun :) If you’re ever looking for another cool place, Wasem’s Fruit Farm in Milan is a great place. We’re thinking of having out pictures taken there :)
Check out my blog…it seems as if we’re neighbors!!

@LeighAnn: Well, we absolutely have something in common- June fifth is my birthday!!! Is that your wedding date?

We almost went to Wasem’s, but we didn’t have tons of time so we narrowed our list down to two orchards. We were so disappointed when we went to Wiard’s. I hadn’t been there in eight or so years, and it was so developed!

Are you in Ann Arbor?
