DIY Aisle Runner - Pineapple Edition

October 8th, 2008 @ 5:39 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Like many of my fellow bees before me (like Penguin, Cookie, and Spring Roll), I too made a DIY aisle runner. I bought a “deluxe fabric aisle runner” from eBay for $20. I was hoping it was a but more deluxe than it was. It is fabric, but it is kind of a stiff fabric. It’s much like napkins at Ruby Tuesday; not paper, but not quite fabric either.
I used a light table to trace the monogram I created in Adobe Illustrator. The light table probably wasn’t necessary, but it made the job go pretty quickly.

I then used Liqutex Basics acrylic copper paint and filled in the lines. It took a couple hours and a couple layers of paint. It took a bit longer and required more paint than I anticipated.
I made sure to keep the paint thick so you could see the brush strokes.

Have you also jumped on the DIY aisle runner bandwagon?

Yep, I put an “M” on mine and then decided it needed more stuff, but I’ve been procrastinating b/c it took so long to pain the “M.” Can’t wait too much longer! Only 9 more days.

I wish I could have used a light table, but the fabric wasn’t transparent.

I love your monogram, and the runner is beautiful.

It’s gorgeous! I think I’ll also be doing this. Our colors are Red and White and imagining the red paint on the white Aisle Runner makes me swoon!! Great Job Pineapple!

This may be a silly question, but how did you decide how far up to put the monogram? Is it just a personal decision?

Thanks everyone!

@BeMine: @Lisa: I made it by altering the characters from Cancellaresca Script

@MissKakes: I think mine is maybe a foot from the end, I just kind of picked a spot. Some people have theirs closer to the alter or whatnot

@jenn: although Kinkos has caused me to rip out half of my hair in the past, you can have them print out a black and white copy on their “blue printing plotter” on the cheapest paper they have (probably 28# text) for only a couple dollars
