About Ms Fondue

It’s Gobo Time!

October 9th, 2008 @ 12:20 pm by Ms Fondue

One lighting element I really wanted was a monogram gobo. We priced them through a few local vendors, but we decided to buy our own projector and got a custom gobo from GoboMan. They have a wedding package deal that includes the projector, gobo, and a clamp for around the price most vendors here were charging for the gobo itself.

Here is the little projector. It’s not a heavy-duty professional thing by any means, but we don’t need it for large, commercial event anyway.

Ignore the cat hair on the couch.

Here it is projecting onto a wall just a few feet away, but it can be adjusted to project much, much further.

And here’s a close-up of the light itself. I just submitted our monogram that I had created in Illustrator, and they entered the stencil-like breaks to make it show up right.

This is definitely one of my favorite wedding purchases to date. I’m so excited to see it in action!

Did any of you have a custom gobo made?

I love it! I wish we could do that - maybe if I get a new job I can finagle the dough. That’s SO cool.

Definitely sweet. How are you going to project the monogram? Like, do you set it on a table, or hang it from the ceiling…?

I was also curious on how you are going to project it? I was thinking about buying this also for a tented outdoor/beach wedding. Let me know how it works out for you.

I’m still trying to decide if I want it shown on the dance floor or the wall, but it comes with a clamp, so we can attach it to a lot of places. I’m thinking either the ceiling or one of the light trees my DJ will be providing.

Oh my goodness yes! When it came in the mail my head almost popped off cause I was so excited to see it.

Who knew that tiny little slide could make someone so happy.

Like you I don’t know if I want it on the dance floor or the wall.

Awesome! I looked into this for mine as well. Please share how/where you are going to mount this. Also… how do you ship it back?? That thing looks bulky!

@Mrs. Emerald: It’s actually not a rental; it’s ours to keep!

@Miss Lemonade: I’m totally trying to find some reason to put it up in the house after the wedding.

Our venue has their own projector and we’re just ordering a custom glass gobo. I can’t imagine our big day without it!

I did,and it is one of the details I am most excited for at our reception!! It’s nice that you get to keep yours…I’ve seen many applications with holiday decorations:)

That 75 watt projection looks good in the dark from a few feet away. But the more ambient light in the room and the further you project the image, the less it will stand out. In that case a brighter fixture may be a good idea.

It would probably look better projected onto the lighter surface of a wall than a standard parquet dance floor. Plus it will still be visible after the dancing starts and the floor fills up with people!

I actually sell the vinyl rub-ons for dance floors. You can create your own monogram it’s sooo easy! These are semi-perm. great also for windows “JUST MARRIED” =)

If anyone is looking to order something similar we had a great experience using Gobosource.com They were friendly, competitive and most of all fast! They got us our custom gobo in less than 7 days and we are in Canada! Impressive :)
