About Mrs. Sushi

Aloha Bee’z!

October 9th, 2008 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Sushi

It’s me! Miss Sushi, the newbee of the hive. You past and present bees (and readers!) have been such an inspiration, I hope to one day inspire as much as you all have.

Miss Sushi is quite fitting for me, besides my suggestive love of nori and rice (I’ve gone as far as taken a sushi class at the local community college), my first (and middle) name is Japanese (even though I have no ounce of Japanese blood running through my veins) and Mr. Sushi and I are getting married at a Japanese temple.

sushi1
Proof of my family’s obsession with Japanese culture; circa 1986-ish

The last 24 hours, since I received my acceptance letter to the bee, I’ve been aimlessly running around the house calling my future hubby his new pet name, Mr. Sushi. He thinks I’m nuts. He also said he’d rather be called Mr. Sake, although I think he’s just wanting a shot of sake to deal with my insanity.

A lil’ about me… hmmm… well, I grew up as a military brat and have lived overseas for over half my life (I only moved to the mainland US at the ripe age of 14). I couldn’t stay away from the military so I gave in and am now a photographer in the National Guard. I’m a nontraditional, realistic kinda gal. I’m a scrapbooker, a photographer, a graphic artist and a major foodie! I sometimes have a hard time finishing what I started. I’m a bad (or a really good) procrastinator, but I’m a planner too. How’s that for an oxymoron. A procrastinating planner.

Mr. Sushi works at a warehouse to pay the bills but his passion is music. He is a total hip-hop head and produces hip hop beats, currently for up and coming hip hop and R&B artists. And while he might look like a suave guy, he is totally a dork! I’m talking Three’s Company watching, big foot and alien believing, ghost hunting kinda dork. He also has an appreciation for art and is a proud daddy of a rambunctious 4 year old (from a previous relationship).

While Mr. Sushi and I do live in the sweetest place on earth, Hershey (Yea, I’m talking about chocolate bars, baby), we’ve decided to ditch the cocoa for hula skirts and will be getting wed on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. More on that to come…

Aloha and welcome.

So did you spend time in Japan with your parents?
I can’t wait to find out what made you decide to pick Hawaii for your wedding.

We got back from our honeymoon on Oahu a few weeks ago, so I’m so excited to hear about your planning there. Especially at the Byodo-In Temple, it’s gorgeous!

@ MrsFroggy: I did live in Japan, I was very young though..I don’t remember much. That photo was taken while we lived there. Japanese glamour shots. LoL.

@ Miss Sea Breeze: Too funny! Mr. Sushi has a MAJOR crush on Janet. I caught him googling her once.

@ Samantha: Represent!

Welcome Miss Sushi! I’m Japanese American and you seem to have more ties with Japanese culture than I do, which is awesome! (btw, lovin’ the family portrait!) Excited to hear about your plans…I heart Hawaii!

@carly7215: It’s funny you say that…being a Filipino American myself, I know more about the Japanese culture than my own. Sad, huh.

A procrastinating planner…. yeah girl, I feel ya.
Glad to have you! Mr. Meatball would love Mr. Sushi, as he’s got these dorky aspirations of writing rap music. Sometimes I catch him freestyling when he doesn’t think I’m listening :)
