Something Blue

October 9th, 2008 @ 3:24 pm by Mrs. Spring Roll

If I spill salt, I throw it over my left shoulder. Walk under a ladder? Never. I won’t dare pick up a penny that’s tails-up, and I’d fear seven years of bad luck if I broke a mirror. Okay, so I am a tad bit superstitious. Our wedding day is no exception. I plan to follow certain customs to bring good luck and happiness. Mr. Spring Roll and I will not see each other prior to the wedding ceremony, nor will he see my dress until our big day. Additionally, I will incorporate something old, new, borrowed, and blue into my attire.

I haven’t given much thought as to what my old, new, borrowed and blue items will be. Today I came across a list in Bride’s magazine titled 16 New Ideas for Your Something Blue; it caught my attention. The article lists several new ideas for something blue.

Here are a few neat ideas:

Blue toenail polish

Are you incorporating something unique or cleverly blue into your wedding attire?

I was just thinking about the toenail thing, since my toes will be covered up. I also have a blue costume jewel from my mom’s mom that is a family tradition to sew onto your attire.

My engagement ring is blue and I’m wearing blue shoes.

Old will probably be jewelry from one or all of my grandmothers and my FI’s grandmother. New will be my dress, etc. and borrowed may also be a piece of jewelry.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a six pence in her shoe.
Don’t forget your six pence. I’ve heard that some people use a penny, maybe a lucky one?!

How about Blue panties and bra? I also liked Mrs. Hydrangeas blue shoes idea and Mrs. Penguin’s blue ring (I mean huge rock!).

I wore a simple anklet with little blue drops. It was so subtle, I loved it!

Blue contacts? Geez! I imagine the bride’s eyes are something the groom is looking forward to looking into during the ceremony. Change them up with contacts? Terrible idea. But the others are cute! I’ll be wearing bright red toenail polish with white and blue seersucker pumps (4th of July bride) and my favorite perfume is Light Blue, so there’s an idea as well! I just ran out. Maybe I’ll hold off getting a new bottle until right before my wedding day.

I got a dress label from Monde Designs. Embrodered on it were “Mrs. Mynewlastname” and our wedding date in baby blue. It’s gorgeous!

I wore a belly button ring that had a blue saphire in it. Luckily my dress wasn’t skin tight so it didn’t show through!

I have the Light Blue perfume. Didn’t get it for the wedding, but how handy! If you’re looking to get it though be sure to get a test spray on your wrist and walk around for an hour to see how the smell changes and if you still like it, since perfumes are funny like that, sometimes what’s perfect on the bottle goes rotten on your skin. Well not rotten, ew.

My something blue is MRS undies and blue bows tied to the back of my sling-back shoes for extra luck. My something new is my dress, the six-pence I ordered is from the date of my grandparents (deceased) wedding year, my something old will be my grandmother’s (deceased) wedding ring and the item that I am most excited about is my SOMETHING BORROWED which is the minister that married my parents. I am stoked about this last part as I was able to track him down and he has consisted to sealing the deal.

Lots of cute ideas! I love the temporary tattoo; though not me at all, it is a very original idea! I just blogged about this yesterday. I am going to wear blue undies and I also have a dress tag with our monogram in blue.

I sewed a tiny blue ribbon bow on the inside of my gown. Cute and sweet.

Ooo ooo! I have something blue! My wedding dress is a deep teal colour. My community wouldn’t even think of questioning the white dress tradition, so we will see how that goes down. Hehe.

I just got married in August and for my something blue I pinned the blue puzzle piece for Autism Speaks to the underlayers of my dress. My Godson is Autistic and he started getting upset at the reception and had to go home early. He couldn’t be at my wedding but knowing the puzzle pin was under my dress reminded me of how special he is and he was there in spirit! The photographer got a cute picture of the blue puzzle piece nestled into my bouquet of lime green orchids…it’s an amazing photo and meaningful.
