Under My Parasol-sol-sol

October 10th, 2008 @ 2:45 pm by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Here in rainy Vancouver, we’re quite accustomed to taking our umbrellas with us everywhere we go during the fall and winter. However, in 5 weeks, I’ll be trading my umbrella for a parasol! In fact, all the girls in our bridal party will be sporting them.

If you’re thinking (like I was) that parasols are a new wedding trend, think again… they were quite the sassy accessory back in the ’70s:

Thankfully, they’ve since gotten less, ahem, frilly; the modern version of the wedding parasol is usually made of rice paper.

And oh, what wonderfully spectacular photo ops abound when there are parasols around!

I’ve managed to somehow convince Mr Breezy that parasols are an absolute necessity for our wedding (my powers of persuasion amaze even me) but I need your help to choose the colors.

We’ll need 4 in total - three for my maiden sidekicks and one for me. Currently, my MOH Pepperpot doesn’t stand out from the other girls since they all have the same dress, so I was thinking, maybe this is a good way to give her a little spotlight with a different colored parasol?

Here’s a reminder of what the gals will be wearing:

And here are my color options from IdealFavors.com:

I really need your help!

What color parasols should Miss SB order?

White for bridesmaids, lilac for MOH, and purple for the bride. I like the contrast.

I voted for other, and was going to suggest the same as Miss Snapdragon… I think a little bit of contrast would be nice!

I, too, love the way parasols look in photos! I hope to have the room to spare in my budget to accommodate some of those puppies. Just lovely.

purple BMs, lilac MOH, white bride…I really think you would look better with white, and this would be more of a graduated look

lilac for MOH
white for maids

are there any patterned options?

I think purple for the bride since you’ll be all in white, then lilac for the 2 other bridesmaid and white for the MOH, just to keep things interesting!

White for you, lilac for the maids and lilac with some detail (maybe hand-painted something?)…

lighter colors diffuse the light so nicely, it’d be so lovely to do the lilac and white!

I say white or lilac for MOH and the maids, and purple for the bride… it will tie everything together, and give you a fun punch of color

I carried a parasol in my friend’s wedding this summer along with a bouquet and let me tell you, it’s impossible to itch your face while holding both. It’s also impossible to get the bee out of the front of your dress while holding both. Things to consider!!!

Oh, yea, the parasol’s also keep the lighting on the face even on a sunny day. Making for awesome photos!

how ’bout purple for you, white for the brides maids and lilac for your maid of honor? it’ll look like a gradient of colors, from light to dark!

someone might have already said it, I’m too lazy to read all the comments.

i would buy:
2 lilac
1 purple
1 white

honestly, you don’t have to worry about what color you have vs. your maid of honor right now….you could try them both out w/your dress when you buy them, or even mix it up with your MOH on the day, or even just for the photos….have fun with them and don’t obsess!!

How about doing Purple for the MOH, Lilac for the BM’s and doing Shite but adding your monogram or some other pattern to yours?

OR White for the BMs, Lilac tof the MOH and Purple for you for contrast but still with a monogram or pattern.
