Simply Stunning Looks

October 10th, 2008 @ 5:26 pm by Miss Ballet Flat

Being that the wedding is in Louisiana, in what is our early summer season, there is no way you will see this future bride in heavy beading, an overly poufy Cinderella dress, etc.

Looking at Jenna Bush’s beautiful ranch wedding, I love how comfortable and beautiful she looks in her dress. Of course, her dress was thousands, probably, but at the same time, I would love a look similar to that. I would love to be comfortable, elegant and of course, in budget.

When I started dress shopping, I had a certain look in mind. I wanted sleeves because I need something to hold the dress up so I’m not pulling it up to keep the gals in check all day. I also felt that I couldn’t pull the look off well either (thinks nightmarish senior prom). I also wanted little to no beading, because beads add weight, and in the summer, who really wants that?

Here were the styles I had in mind when I started dress shopping.

Option 1:

I’m not in fashion but no beading screams my name here. While this isn’t like Jenna Bush’s dress, this quickly became my front runner. It’s just so simple with a bit of volume, but not too much. I love the neckline and the way it bunches up in all the right places. Simple and beautiful!

Option 2:

This gown looks like something that would be worn to an outdoors wedding. It’s a dress with really the same volume as option 1, but the lightness of the dress looks like something that I could walk around all day in, but still feel like a bride.

Option 3:

This dress is very similar to the option 2 dress above, however, I think the fabric looks nicer, and I like the neckline more. It also looks to flatter the model a lot more, but they have different bodies so I’m not sure. Very springy/summery and light but elegant as well!

Did you have a look or dress in mind when you went dress shopping?

I am actually having a princessy dress(that is actually pretty light weight) and a summer wedding (Pictured below)(http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=105&sfid=288&f=),.

However, I have given that choice many second thoughts as I have seen more real bees with dresses like the ones you posted. i am sure yours will be gorgeous!

hilarious.

Dress #1 is the dress one of my BMs is wearing for her wedding (also one I considered myself) and dress #2 is my dress!! Dress #2 is so flowy and wonderful. It wasn’t even the style I had set out to get, but I fell in love with it. I got mine from plussizebridal.com for super cheap and they’re very reccommended.

You’re the first person I’ve found who could potentially be my dress twin. =)

this is the style i had set out for: http://tinyurl.com/3om54b but not what i got at all.

Dress #1 is my dress! I loved it. It was so comfortable, and since it has the corset back it fit like a glove without any alterations at all. You can wear it a little more off the shoulder than in the photo, if you want. I think it’s a great dress for all sizes - it fits very close to the body, but with a good structure, so that you don’t need a serious foundation layer to sort of hold everything in. And being able to cinch in the waist made even me look curvy! And Alfred Angelo has great prices.

I deffinately did. Last year, when I was formal shopping i found the perfect wedding dress. It was like Belle’s yellow dress from beauty and the beast. Once I was engaged I tried on one to see if it suited me and I bought one of that style cheaper and am making modifications:)
I know what its like to fall in love with a dress.

Dress #1 is high on my list of dresses to check out, I think it’s beautiful and flattering to a fuller figured bride.

I love dress #2. I ended up having my dress made to fit my shape because I got too frustrated with the dress search but I wish I would have displayed a bit more patience..
jellopixy, I ordered a dress from the same place you did and lo and behold it looked NOTHING like the picture. More like a tablecloth actually…

Not sure if you’re taking a poll, but I like #1. When I was dress shopping, I was all over the place. Im pretty much all over the place in everyday life, though…..=)

I love your sense of style, Miss Ballet Flat! Jenna Bush’s dress was one of my inspirations when I started dress shopping, I think it’s so simple and classic. I also love v-neck gowns, I think they are so flattering.

I love option 1! It’s sooo flattering with the ruching. It’s similar to what mine was, only mine was strapless and I loved it!

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I really can’t wait to show the hive what I ended up choosing, and yes, it’s already been ordered! Eek!! I can’t wait until it’s here and I can share it with y’all :)

@Miss Dumpling: It’s not necessarily a poll, but just to show the hive what I went into a bridal shop with in my head. :)

#1 is gorgeous and seems to be the front runner with the Bees! I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that #3 is lovely, too. It just seems simple and flattering. Can’t wait to find out which one made the cut!

I was completely in love with Dress #1 when I searched for dresses online. I obsessed about the dress, and called all around the state to find it. However, when I tried it on, I just didn’t love it on me. I ended up choosing something completely different. It’s still a lovely dress though!

Can’t wait to see what you chose! :)

I have pretty specific ideas, but I keep changing them. And it’s so true as soon as you try it on, your “favorite” may not be for you. But I love #1!

They’re all lovely, but my vote definitely goes to dress #1. I’m excited to find out what you picked!

I loved #1 and I actually bought it for my wedding, but I have one word of caution for you. You’ll notice that in every picture they take of that dress the model is slightly turned to the left. I wonder if they do that to hide the boning on the front of the dress. The boning on the left side of the chest on the sample I tried stuck out terribly, but they saleswoman said it was twisted. Unfortunately, that wasn’t true because when my dress came in the boning issue was there…it looked like I was wearing a cone shaped bra. Most of your wedding pictures show you from the waist up so the top of my dress had to look good, but they wouldn’t take out the boning because they said it would fall off of me. So, this weekend I ended up buying a very similar dress from Augusta Jones that doesn’t have any boning.

I wore dress #1 on my Oct. 12th wedding and am still getting TONS of compliment on how great it looked. I highly recommend it. I had none of the problems the above commenter, Michele, had. The Augusta Jones is a nice fabric so it is priced around $2,000. I got the Alfred Angelo for $400.
