There Are Way Too Many…

FONTS!

When I was an R.A. in college, I loved going to websites and choosing funky, fun fonts for posters, class notes, etc. Now that I’m a bride, fonts are starting to intimidate me just a little bit.

I mean, I can’t possibly be expected to just choose one or two fonts for our invites right? There are just so many beautiful fonts. I already chose one for our STD’s, but should I carry that over into our invites to incorporate a theme somehow? I guess we could do that, but we have a few more months to choose!

I love free fonts, by the way. The cheaper, the better, in my eyes. If you are starting your font search, here are my two favorite sites to check out!

1001 Free Fonts
DaFont

You can find all of these wonderful fonts on DaFont. I haven’t had time to go to 1001 Fonts yet. So, in my search so far, here are some of my favorites!

Calligraphy/Script Options:

Brock Script:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf1 bf1

Champignon:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf2 bf2

Chopin Script:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf3 bf3

Freebooter Script:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf4 bf4

Honey Script:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf5 bf5

Serif/Sans Serif Options

Bodoni XT:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf6 bf6

Centabel:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf7 bf7

Geo Sans Light (STD font):

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf8 bf8

Optimus Princeps:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf9 bf9

Images sources

Also, a great thing I discovered about font sites is that there are fonts called Dingbats. These are graphics, which are treated like fonts. Each letter on the keyboard represents a different graphic! So, they can be any color you want them, any size, etc. Great for invites, monograms, or really, anything!

Here are some floral dingbats that I love!

Floralia:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf10 bf10

Florals 2:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf11 bf11

Flower Ornaments:

There Are Way Too Many... : wedding new orleans Bf12 bf12

Are you having trouble finding the perfect font(s) for your wedding? Which fonts did you go with if you have already decided on your fonts?

I used Chopin for my DIY invites. It is such an elegant font with curly-q’s in all the right places!

We almost went with Chopin Script, but decided that an upright script font would look better with our monogram, so decided to use Feel Script. I really like that Freebooter Script, though; I hadn’t seen it before.

For our plain font, I just chose one already on the computer and made it small-caps. We went with Bookman Old Style.

We are looking for fonts now. I keep coming back to the Feel Script font that Mrs. Lemon blogged about awhile ago, but its so expensive. Then researching it I was lead to all the other fonts that also are so beautiful but cost money. Thanks for sharing some more affordable options. I like the brock script and freebooter script that you have above.

I used the Alex Brush font throughout all my stationary for the wedding. I fell in love with it and still want to use it for non-wedding things all the time. My husband was very picky about the font. His first name starts with Z and he doesn’t like the traditional cursive Z that comes with most script fonts, so I had to find one that accomodated his wants with my love for pretty fonts. :)

I like Freebooter Script and Optimus Princeps. I’m with you about fonts, I LOVE them and can often spot which fonts are used in magazines, ads, etc. I loved the font that Miss Cupcake used on her invitations and am probably going to steal that. :)

Freebooter Script and Harrington are my fonts. I used dingbats for the menu options on my rsvp cards.

We used Optimus Princeps for the main text and Champignon for our names and other things we wanted to highlight.

Darling Swash/Script combo is our “fancy” font. I love it!

I love all the pretty fonts on the websites but I can never follow their instructions on how to download them so they are useable. Can someone help a girl with the computer skills of a second grader out? :)

We used freebooter script for our names on our invitations. (yeah, they’re printed already even though the wedding isn’t til April - the FI is the antithesis of procrastinator)

On a pc with Windows XP, go to Start, Control Panel, Appearances and Themes. On the Left Side there is a column that says See Also (maybe it will be different on your computer, but this is how it is on mine) and click Fonts. Once you get there go to File, Install New Font. Then browse to the folder where you downloaded the font (I usually just save it to my desktop) and if you have Save to Fonts Folder checked, it will copy it to that folder and then you can delete it from your desktop. I hope this makes sense!

@M&MWedding:

If you like Feel Script, try Monterey BT. It’s one that is free. It’s not *quite* as pretty as Feel but it captures the style of the script.

We used “Porcelain” for our names on our invitations and a different typeface for the rest of the wording. We also used Porcelain for our table numbers. It is a pretty fancy typeface, but when used sparingly, it highlights important words so beautifully!

I love Honey Script. It’s my fave! I designed my blog’s logo using it (http://BustleEventDesign.blogspot.com). It’s a bit more casual, though.

Thanks for typing out the words using the various fonts - I never knew Bodoni XT looked so COOL in word-form!
