Mrs. Dumpling, Las Vegas Age and Occupation: 27, Finance Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Real Estate Engagement Date: March, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 26, 2008 Venue: Catholic church ceremony & golf course reception About Me: I grew up in the Deep South, and while most people say I have a thick southern accent, I tend to think it only comes out when I need to use it. Living in Las Vegas has definitely been an adventure and Mr. Dumpling and I are loving every minute of it! We are planning a traditional Catholic wedding ceremony and a reception with lots of DIY! We might even get Elvis to show up! I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, love The Office and can't wait to become a Mrs.!
About Mrs. Dumpling

Before I go into this post, I just want to say that the main focus about getting married should be the ceremony and the joining of two people who are in love and want to make a life long commitment.

That being said…

Next on your mind should be the PAR-TAY! As in, the reception! I know most of y’all’s idea of how to spend over $10K isn’t serving dinner to 200 guests, but this is a wedding, people! The land where your steak dinner with mashed potatoes cost you about $24 last night, but at your wedding, you’re prepared to pay upwards of $85 for that baby!

Vegas certainly has a lot to offer when it comes to reception venues. Steve Wynn could suggest about 10 of them, all while robbing your savings account of every last dime. When we started scouting out reception venues, we had a couple of requirements:

  1. That we could bring in our own catering company and bartenders (this saves money on the whole price-per-person thing).
  2. Somewhere beautiful, with character, but not “Vegas cheesy.”

So with that in mind… I give you our reception venue!

Siena Golf & Country Club

You can bring in your own vendors—everything from the food to the liquor to the entertainment. It saves money if you are planning on a 250+ guest list like the Dumplings are! The catch? Its a little off the beaten path. Seriously—it’s a good 20-minute car ride from our church ceremony, which is late in the afternoon on a Friday. Oh, please rush hour traffic—be kind to the Dumplings and their guests on their wedding day. :)

Weddingbee reader Jacqui also had her reception there and was kind enough to give us some pictures.

If you plan on getting married in Las Vegas, definitely consider this venue. It’s beautiful, the staff is friendly, and it hardly needs any decorations. Instant savings!

Are you getting married in Las Vegas or have you attended a wedding here? What has been your favorite reception venue? Outside of Vegas, how did you choose where you would have your reception?

I’ve went to a wedding @ Siena in May of this year. It was a very nice wedding…the ceremony was outside and the reception was inside. Everyone had a blast! It was a bit far from the strip, so we stayed at a resort nearby, Red Rock.

We are getting Married in Vegas in May of 2009. Mandalay Bay is our central location (it was very important to us for guest to be able to walk from one thing to another). So Mandalay Bay, Valley of the Falls for the Ceremony at 7pm. Then a cocktail reception in a VIP lounge of the House of Blues from 8pm-11pm, followed by an after party in a large Mandalay Bay suite from 11pm - sunrise. :)

Looks great, Dumpling! :)

I am so jealous that you can bring in your own stuff for drinks! Our food pricing was somewhat reasonable, but they are going to kill us on the drinks. The worst part? They price per drink instead of a per person flat rate, so we won’t even know how much it will be until the end of the night! It has been driving me nuts that I can’t budget the exact number lol. I have had nightmares about it!

My friends got married here and it was gorgeous!!! The sunset occurs just behind you over the mountain and it was perfect for photos. However, their wedding was in mid-July and it was a lovely 122 degrees out. The bride put us in full-length bridesmaids gowns and I thought I would die (I am known for getting heatstroke in about 3 seconds). Luckily it was a short wedding and I was fine. :)

The only thing I remember was that the wedding was on the grass and she didn’t tell us that before and we all wore heels…they were sinking in the whole time. So, you might want to tell your girls in advance if the aisle and where they stand will be grass so they can avoid stillettos.

So, did I read that right? You’re feeding 200-250 guests on a budget of a little over 10k? If so, I envy you! I’m trying to do exactly that but for my wedding in Detroit, but I’m having a bear of a time. Of the few places that allow you to bring your own caterer, most of those are too small. Lucky you. :-)

@Ms. 12k: I know! In the Detroit area it doesn’t seem like any venues let you bring in outside catering & bartenders.

we are getting married in Vegas!!! But the reception will not be up in Vegas. I wanted to get married on 9-9-09 and he wanted a vegas wedding, so we will be having a ceremony up in Vegas and then head home to Arizona for a Saturday reception in my parent’s yard. Love your venue though!!

Yeah I like Mandalay Bays options. I think they are the classiest in Vegas for the price.

Hi Alea - We had ours pretty late so we skipped the sit down dinner which saved us a ton. We went straight from the ceremony (7pm, eco-package at the falls) to a cocktail party (8pm) in the House of Blues Foundation Room (private club at the top of the hotel). We had some food, sushi rolls, dips, etc. and a full bar. Then we had an after party (11pm) in a 2 bedroom Luxor suite.

However when i first wrote my comment we were still in the planning stages and i can say that we definitely spent more than 10k. The cocktail reception, for 90, alone cost us 12k i believe.
