About Mrs. Avocado

Almost the Best Thing

October 14th, 2008 @ 4:34 pm by Mrs. Avocado

Mr. Avocado is still sleeping, and I am just to excited to stay in bed. I’ll have you know that he not only supports my honeymoon blogging, but also encourages it. Yesterday he asked me, “Have you done your blogging for the day yet?”

Am I not the luckiest?

I think it is time to show you one of my favorite wedding planning epiphanies. I read all the bride blogs (really, I try to read all of them because I am crazy) and I have never seen anyone else do this. If you know me, you know that there are few things I love more than originality.

That, would be the wedding cake. Preserved for days through the power of Tupperware. I packed the container in with my wedding decor boxes and bags with a note inside instructing my DOC to put cake inside and send it up to our room.

We have enjoyed it so much that we are headed back to the shop today to buy a few more slices for the rest of the honeymoon. I am going to have to inquire about shipping costs to Dallas for next October.

If you are married, what epiphany did you enjoy the most in retrospect?

Yum! We also had our coordinator leave some cake in our room when she brought up the gifts/cards, etc. We didn’t get to it that night, but it was yummy the next day! I highly recommend it if you like sweets as much as I do. :-)

Cool, I hope more people do it! There’s nothing sadder than a bride and groom who don’t even get to enjoy their own cake.

@necole: I bought the cake from Simply Desserts in Fremont, WA. I actually found the bakery after asking around on Weddingbee. I had several people reply and say they were the best bakery in all of Seattle!

This was *supposed* to happen for me, only my caterer failed to reserve any of the cake for us as I had requested. I wanted two slices of each layer (we had different flavors in each layer) kept aside and sent home with us to enjoy that night, instead they saved me exactly ZERO slices…2 months later I’m still bitter about this, grumble grumble

OMG, you are one of the smartest people ever! I wish I had done this because we never got to eat our wedding cake.

@rachel: Oh man Rachel, what a bummer! I was nervous it wouldn’t work for me either, but all you can do is try! You can always order another little mini cake for your anniversary!

@beaninca: We ate a little bit of cake while we were there, but we knew there would be leftovers and we wanted them for ourselves. Plus, I was so overwhelmed with things to do and people to talk to at the wedding I didn’t have time to really sit down and enjoy myself. Now I get to eat cake in bed with my husband every morning if I want!

We actually did the same thing, except I had our DOC pack our entire dinner into a picnic basket with the cake, a bottle of champagne and our toasting flutes. I knew I would be running around too much to seriously eat and thought a late night picnic with my new husband would be perfect. It was! And, our caterer declined to take money for having to serve us dinner twice :)

@kiran_in_nyc:Have you seen the Martha Stewart photos of the little brown bags labeled bride and groom where she encourages this? I thought about doing it, but it was just yet another thing to add to my plate and I couldn’t bear the thought of anything else!

I didn’t but that sounds so cute :) I really just knew I’d be hungry later and my caterer and DOC were just so sweet about doing this extra thing for me. The DOC even rememebered to pack it all into our “getaway car”

Love your posts!! Can’t wait to see the BM rings!
