Finding My Motivation

I need to cut this picture out and post it on my fridge.

Mr. T would say, “I pity the bride who plans but doesn’t act on it!”

I have so much to do! I guess I’m feeling a small crunch here. The big day is still 7 months away, and while it seems far away, I know that’s pretty close for engaged couples.

I should have sent my Save the Dates a month ago! That was the plan, at least. However, I can’t gather up the motivation to finish the guest list since my iBook died. I know, it’s no excuse. Bad Ballet Flat!

I also need to start on my Gocco projects. I have napkins, invites, thank you notes, etc. to Gocco. I’m just intimidated by the machine, because screens and lamps are hard to come by if I do mess up!

I gained 6 pounds in a MONTH. I really let myself go and gained back (plus 2 pounds) the weight I worked my booty off to lose! I’m so let down right now.

Also, a small background. I’m paying for the majority of the wedding. Saving has never been so hard! It seems every time I get a good savings going, something comes up. First, the iBook died and now, I need serious dental work done (like $1000 out of pocket… gotta love the rotten genetics of weak enamel!).

I guess I’m just in a small rut right now. I’m feeling the crunch, yet I have no motivation to GET MOVING.

Have you ever had moments like this where you just couldn’t make any progress in your planning?

Yes. Yes. & Yes. I know what you are talking about! Right when you start saving- its like the cosmos align and then *BAM* you get a flat tire on the way to work or a major house appliance needs to be replaced… or you go to the gym (in my case a step class) and realize you don’t know the steps. And getting to the gym was half the battle. (It helped me to watch- the biggest loser’. The trainers are intense with their motivational words)
Hang in there Miss Ballet Flats… Just take each day at a time. Maybe stop thinking of everything that needs to get done at once. Make a lil monthly planner; Week 1: do this. Week 2: Do that… and when you see your list is lessened by two items see how you feel…

Why don’t you have a lil party, get some girls together and tackle some of those projects? Make it a DIY-social? It might be fun!

I hear you girl! I’ve had headaches and migrains all week because of stress. And being 5 months out, I really shouldn’t be stresses quite yet (the stress isn’t all wedding related though).

I have weak enamel too….hate going to the dentist because of it.

I totally understand where you are coming from!! I felt like that this whole summer and we were 4 months away…I couldn’t get back on my feet until the 2 month mark and just barely sent out invitaions in the 1 1/2 mark! Don’t worry, everything works out. All the people eventually got the invites and whether they got it at 2 months or 1 month, they are still coming. Rules are there for guidelines, but you do not have to follow them! Do things little by little and don’t stress out too much! =)

I’m feeling the crunch right now, too, but I am 4 mos out from TODAY! Sometimes I wonder what I was thinking having a 6 mo engagement, and working & going to school on the weekends…but (from my name) I couldn’t wait to be married, and really it will have been in the works for more like a year…hang in there! I gained back my lost weight, too, but it is probably just stress, and it’s better than gaining that weight w/o having first lost it?

I can totally relate, weeks are flying by and things aren’t getting done fast enough! I’m also a May 09 bride and jeez I feel so behind. Plus I get my dress this month and gained most of the weight I lost. It is frustrating but at the least we aren’t in denial about our time line. One day and task at a time girl, it will get done even if there are things that come up to derail us!

@Sparkles: One of my BM’s is coming down in December to get me Gocco’ing..thank goodness!! We will definitely have a little girls night out of it!
@Miss Sushi: The dentist is always depressing…I’m glad I’m not alone here!
@nette: I’ve already chosen and orderedmy dress, but thanks for the offer! Maybe someone else reading will pick up on it! Or you can post about it in the classifieds on here!

Yes! I can relate, especially to the weight gain and difficulty with savings. Why is it that so many expensive things always seem to come up at once?! Sigh.

I can totally relate. I have been very lazy about working out since we got engaged last month. I KNOW I need to start working out as I want to lose some weight before I start looking at dresses in December, yet my motivation has gone out the window.

I have put off going to the dentist for the very reason you stated. I know it’s going to be a huge amount of work I need to get done. I’ll do it closer to the wedding! :p

woa, this post is 100 percent what I am going thru.

I postponed $1,200 in dental work to buy my dream dress, and with 7 months till I wed, I hit a brick wall in planning. I just look at stuff and can’t make decisions.

but I’ve got one thing on you. i’m mailing out the STDs this week. whootwhoot!

Don’t feel bad!!! You will get it all done! It can be so overwhelming, especially since a lot of it seems to need to be done at the same time (for example, picking a florist, DJ, photog, getting your dress, etc).

If it makes you feel any better, I’m 7 months out too, and so far I’ve only selected the location (still waiting for the contract!) and ordered my save-the-dates (they should be here tomorrow, so I can get them out by next week at the latest). I haven’t picked a photographer, videographer, DJ or florist yet. I went dress shopping yesterday for the first time, and still have quite a few bridal shops to hit up. I haven’t decided on my colors, and I haven’t even thought about bridesmaids dresses!!! So don’t worry… you could be even worse off, like me!!! :)

But we will get there! Just try to enjoy as much as you can. I’ve started making a to-do list, with the most important items at the top. And then I just work towards crossing one off as often as I can. Of course, the list is growing faster than I can check them off! But I’ll get it all done! :)

Miss Ballet Flat — I’ve got just over 7 months too, and I am at a stand still. I’ve ordered my dress, changed venues for the second time (this is venue #3– I better not change again!) and now I am just sitting.

I need to start cutting paper and get letterpressing, but.. ack. I think I’m scared of screwing up. It’s easier to dream about it than do it.

And, I’ve packed on some weight too. Sigh. It’s like you’re living my life (except my dental insurance is FAB!).

Chin up Miss Ballet Flat, you’ll hit the ground running and accidentally lose those pounds and emerge all beautiful and calm with your DIY projects all gorgeously done.

A couple thoughts for ya. The ibook - when you replace it - GET APPLE CARE! Sooooo worth it. The dentist - I know it sucks, but it is a long term investment…(thats the only silver lining i’ve been able to come up with in all my years of dental nightmares - sorry that isn’t more cheerful!) The weight - that just bites and its a crappy feeling that I think is the hardest to overcome and get going again. Best thing for that is get an obnoxiously persistent gym buddy who can get you back into the swing of things.

As for the DIY to do list. Scrap a few. Search for affordable Thank You notes you like. Pick up a pack or two whenever you find them on sale. No one is going to compare and say “My Thank You note looks different!!!” And really, if you are having motivation issues that might lead to a time crunch - forget the napkins. Yes, they are fun the first time someone notices.. but really - they are napkins and your monogram will not be missed if not on them.
Lastly - take a DEEP BREATH…. repeat! :)
