Groom Entertainment System

October 15th, 2008 @ 5:23 pm by Ms Fondue

Being from the South, it should come as no surprise that we’ll be having a groom’s cake. There have been very, very few weddings I’ve been to that didn’t have a groom’s cake. To put that in perspective, I’ve been to 30+ weddings in my lifetime and can only think of three that didn’t have one (granted, I wasn’t that observant at my cousins’ weddings when I was a kid).

Mr. Fondue knew he wanted something gaming related.

However, while we both loved the detailed masterpieces that are these Mario cakes, we didn’t want it to overpower (or overprice) the wedding cake.

So, he has decided upon the fairly simple original Nintendo Entertainment System for his cake.

What’s the theme of your groom’s cake?

I’ve seen this before in a magazine! I like the groom cakes that are funny, kind of young, and not at all serious the best - and these are fantastic! I’ve even seen the ones that look like a macbook (you know, for those with nerd skills). The first two are beautiful to look at, like art. But I think the NES is way better. Who didn’t own one of those? I still have mine!

I think we’re going to do an Xbox Grooms Cake, how funny!! I thought CityGroom was the biggest nerd for suggesting it, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with a Gamer Guy!!

Our other thought was to do a 10-key (Desk Calculator with the Tape) cake since we’re both Accountants and have the Tape say ” + = Love” (insert our names) or something!! But, CityGroom thinks I’m the nerd for suggesting that one!

I love this tradition so much, but I think that Mr. Avocado would have been telling me “We don’t do that in Poland. Crazy Americans!” :)

I love love love Super Mario. I could play for hours. Sometimes I do.

You know, this MUST be a Southern thing. Nobody does this in Las Vegas. When I was growing up in Alabama, it was a huge faux paux to not have a grooms cake. But, Mr. D just things its one more thing to spend money on. Can I come to your wedding? I need some Southern traditions!

I wish I would have gotten this when I was married… Maybe I could have had Mike Tyson’s Punchout with a cake in the shape of an ear?

Then everyone could take a bite out of it…

I heart Nintendo! Remember Duck Hunt??

Your Groom’s cake is SO FUN Miss Fondue! Your guests are going to LOVE IT!

We haven’t decided if we’re having a groom’s cake or not (I know southern tradition faux pas!) but if we do- it’ll definitely be something Cubs or Bears related. The Mr. is a HUGE fan.

I think groom’s cakes are so cool. I wish it was a tradition up here, but Mr. P thinks along the same lines as Mr. Dumpling

I’m excited to actually be picking up our groomscake tonight for our rehearsal dinner. I’m surprising my fiance with a Transformers, Autobot themed cake. He’s transformers obsessed and I know he’s going to be very pleasantly surprised!

We will, of course, have a sports theme cake. My fiance is so obsessed that he can’t even make fun of me for my obsession with wedding blogs. He is the top contributor to tons of sports (football) message boards and blogs. We can’t miss the sports portions of the news and I have to let him vent for at least 2 hours after a big game. The South and football and grooms cakes and…

I don’t get why people who are so sad about not getting to have a groom’s cake b/c it costs more money don’t just get an awesome themed wedding cake.
