I Picked Some Just For You

I Picked Some Just For You : wedding vancouver P1050975 Copy Thumb2.jpg

I L-O-V-E photography. It’s not even funny. If I didn’t have such an understanding husband, I’m sure I would be receiving my share of funny looks when I stroke my camera, caressing its body, whispering sweet nothings into the lens hood. ;) Now that The Party has passed, I finally feel free to concentrate on the little flickers (flickrs?) of hobbies that have burst into flame inside of me. Seriously. Here are some of my favourite floral photos from our Hawaiian honeymoon:

On Kalakaua Avenue, by Waikiki beach:

By a little waterfall at the Diamond-head end of Kalakaua Avenue:

The King Kamehameha statue:

A succulent ring shot (’cause we’re married! woot! woot!): I Picked Some Just For You : wedding vancouver P1050984 Copy Thumb4.jpg

Which one is your favourite? Anybody else pursue a hobby from their wedding after their wedding?

Great pics!! One thing, though - the statue is King Kamehameha, a very important figure in Hawaiian history. Hope you are having a wonderful trip - we live here and are so happy when people enjoy the islands!

Beautiful pictures! Just a random question, what kind of camera are you using? I’m actually shopping around for one and need suggestions…

I’m usin my first DSLR - a Lumix DMC FZ18 (http://www.digitalreview.ca/Content/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-FZ18-Digital-Camera.shtml). It has an AWESOME leica lens as part of its body - so my daytime shots are stellar. However, it has a tendency towards chromatic noise at really low ISO (like, 150), and a limited range of lenses, so I wouldn’t recommend it on those points. I’m upgrading in a couple months to a canon eos 5D (http://digitalreview.pgpartner.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=11259024/search=canon%205d/st=product/sv=image) which is more appropriate for a wedding photographer. It depends what you want one for! Look at reviews, and in my opinion, save money on buying an older model (nikon and canon come out with new ones every few months, so older model doesn’t mean OLD), and put your money toward buying lenses, which don’t go “out of style.” And further more, if you are looking to expand your photography with lenses, stick to a Nikon or a Canon, as they offer the best and widest selection of lenses.

@Mrs. Shortcake: Thanks! I was planning on buying a Canon, but a cheaper model like the Rebel Xti. Oh, and the Canon eos 5D is great! I know a wedding photographer who uses mostly Nikon, but also has the canon eos 5D and his photos are amazing! Good luck :)

Will you keep us updated on your wedding photography business? I live in B.C. (although I’ve moved away from the Coast) and I plan on getting married soon. And even if I don’t use you, I may be able to recommend you to some of my Van-city friends!!

What details can you give about your Hawaii honeymoon?
The fiancee and I REALLY want to honeymoon on the islands but have no idea where to start. Can I request maybe a post specific to your honeymoon? Where you stayed? What you did? I’d love it oh so much!

Wow, I am completely stunned! You are a woman of many trades! Gorgeous pictures! Can I ask if you touched the photos up in Photoshop or if they are the original images? The clarity of the photos is just phenomenal!

@mrsp: thanks! Every pro photographer will use photoshop as a tool in their toolbelt, but you can only sharpen a cr*ppy photo so much! :) Those photos are clear because the camera wasn’t moving. The more movement/blur, the less the clarity, and the less you could feasibly do to correct it in photoshop. The easiest way to reduce movement is to use a tripod. These photos were tripod free, as we were just out for a walk, but I used other structures around me to steady me (rail, ground, fire hydrant, etc). Keep your elbows in, and your camera as close to your body as possible. Use TWO hand to hold you camera - one on the grip/clicker, and one underneath, holding the bottom of the lens. Hope that helps!
