Besides the exhausting venue hunt, the number one thing that has been most difficult for us has been deciding the table names.
We’re having assigned seating, so naming or numbering the tables is a must. I always liked the idea of having names for the tables instead of the traditional numbers, and we figured it was a good way to work in some more of our interests and personalities. But agreeing on the names? Impossible.
My first idea was different words for the color ‘red’, since it’s our accent color. For example, “Rouge”, “Scarlet”, “Crimson”, “Cherry”, “Claret”, etc. Mr. Fondue said no.
My next idea was video game couples. It was a take on the popular “famous couples” idea, except would be representing the geek in our geek chic wedding. We’d have the “Link and Zelda” table, the “Mario and Peach” table, and the “Locke and Celes” table. (My favorite was “Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man” but Mr. Fondue tried to argue that they weren’t actually a couple.) He suggested expanding this idea to include movies as well, so we could have the “Han Solo and Leia” table and the “Wesley and Buttercup” table. I went as far as to make some mock-up table cards for this, but then Mr. Fondue decided he didn’t like it at all.
He had decided that the tables should be places. His only suggestion was planets from Star Wars. I pointed out that, while he was an enormous Star Wars fan, I had only seen the original trilogy once or twice, and it wasn’t very representative of the both of us.
Going with the places idea, I proposed to use streets we had lived on. Like “Melrose”, where my college dorm was, or “Echo Valley”, where he had lived with his friends. He liked that they were place names, but still vetoed it.
He wasn’t offering up any suggestions other than the Star Wars planets idea, so I went back to numbers. We could have years for the numbers, and put pictures of ourselves from those years on the table cards. He thought that it was cute, but didn’t think there would be enough decent pictures of him as a kid for us to use.
Then I suggested finding numbers that were somewhat significant to us, like the house number, or a license plate number, and taking pictures of us beside them. He was iffy about it, and I could tell it wasn’t his favorite idea.
At some point, I also suggested dressing our cats up in wedding attire and taking pictures of them with numbers. Mr. Fondue just thought I was nuts.
So, we went back to names.
My next proposal was for cities we had lived in, or were somewhat connected to us. We had gone to Atlanta on our sort-of first date, so that could be one. We could also use the town we were going to visit on our honeymoon. I just received a “meh” from Mr. Fondue.
Finally, one day I showed him Mrs. Hummingbird’s table names. He LOVED this idea, especially the idea of each person having a different character from the game. We made up some rules, like it had to be a series of at least 3 or more games (so they aren’t TOO obscure), and we would alternate choosing which games we wanted, so that we would both be well represented.
Thus, our table names were born. Here is what we have narrowed it down to so far, but we may need one or two more:
Will you have creative/unique table names? What will they be?
